Christian Encarnacion-Strand - Belts homer in loss
Encarnacion-Strand went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 5-3 loss to Minnesota.
Impact
Encarnacion-Strand launched his ninth homer in the fourth inning, the rookie's third homer over the last four games. A slumping Elly De La Cruz, who sat out for the third time in the last six contests, has opened a few extra opportunities for Encarnacion-Strand and Noelvi Marte on the left side of the infield.

Alexis Díaz - Tagged with blown save, loss
Diaz (9-5) was tagged with the loss and a blown save to the Twins on Wednesday. He allowed three runs on two hits and one walk over a third of an inning.
Impact
Diaz's line looks much worse than what actually transpired: a 34.6-mph infield single, a stolen base with a throwing error that moved the runner to the third, then a 70.4-mph soft liner to drive in a run. Following a walk, the closer was replaced by Sam Moll. After a double steal and intentional walk, Jorge Polanco singled in two runs, both charged to Diaz. This was just Diaz's third blown save in 40 opportunities.

Hunter Greene - Racks up career-high 14 strikeouts
Greene did not factor into the decision Wednesday, allowing one run on three hits and one walk over seven innings against Minnesota while striking out 14.
Impact
Greene dominated the Twins over his seven innings of work, fanning four of the first six batters he faced en route to posting a career-high 14 strikeouts on the afternoon. It marked the right-hander's fourth consecutive start in which he allowed three or fewer runs and the first time he's gone at least seven innings since May 21. It was also Greene's fifth start this season with 10 or more strikeouts.

Stuart Fairchild - Returns to action
Fairchild entered Tuesday's game in the ninth inning as the left fielder and went 0-for-1 in a 7-0 loss to Minnesota.
Impact
Fairchild made his first appearance since coming off the COVID-19-related injured list. Given the large deficit, Reds manager David Bell inserted several bench players during the latter innings, one of which was Fairchild who got himself acclimated to game conditions in a low-pressure setting.

Ben Lively - Needed for bulk relief
Lively allowed five runs on seven hits and four walks while striking out four over four relief innings in Tuesday's 7-0 loss to the Twins.
Impact
The plan Tuesday was not to need Lively for that many innings or at all, per Charlie Goldsmith of the Cincinnati Enquirer. Reds manager David Bell scripted a bullpen game had the ability for relievers to cover the game instead of turning to Lively. The manager had four relievers open the game, but the plan went awry when Cincinnati fell behind early with a lifeless offense. Bell said he plans to manage the final two weeks as if it were the playoffs, which could mean shorter outings for starters and multiple relievers.

Noelvi Marte - Not in lineup Tuesday
Marte is out of the lineup Tuesday versus the Twins.
Impact
Marte had made two consecutive starts at third base for the Reds, but Christian Encarnacion-Strand will get the nod there Tuesday as Elly De La Cruz covers shortstop. Marte, 21, is sitting on an impressive .304/.368/.405 batting line through his first 87 major-league plate appearances.

Luke Maile - Out with bruised hand
Maile (hand) remains out of the lineup Tuesday against the Twins.
Impact
Maile hasn't appeared in a game since Friday due to a bruised left hand, but X-rays taken Saturday turned up clean and he should be available off the bench Tuesday versus Minnesota. Tyler Stephenson is starting at catcher for the Reds and batting fifth.

ROTOWIRE
Ben Lively - Slated for bulk relief Tuesday
Lively is expected to work as a bulk reliever behind opening pitcher Fernando Cruz in Tuesday's game against the Twins, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Impact
After being activated from the COVID-19-related injured list last Thursday, Lively looks poised to make his second consecutive appearance as a bulk reliever. While working behind Derek Law in an 8-2 loss to the Tigers in his return to action, Lively took a no-decision after giving up three earned runs on four hits and no walks while striking out four over 4.1 innings. Cruz is expected to work just an inning or two Tuesday before turning the game over to Lively, who is the Reds pitcher most likely to factor into the decision. Looking ahead, Lively could end up sticking as a pure reliever, as the Reds have three remaining off days that would allow the team to get by with a four-man rotation the rest of the way. After tossing seven innings of two-run ball in Monday's 7-3 win, Connor Phillips could be poised to remain in the rotation as the No. 4 pitcher rather than Lively.

Joey Votto - Drives in two
Votto went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored in Monday's 7-3 win over the Twins.
Impact
Votto added insurance with a two-run single in the seventh inning that made it a 7-2 game. The two runs knocked in leave him with 37 RBI over 57 games. The 40-year-old is 6-for-22 (.273) with a home run, double, four RBI and four runs scored over six games since from a shoulder injury.
