Cade Horton - Placed on IL
The Cubs placed Horton on the 15-day injured list Saturday, retroactive to Sept. 25, due to a right rib fracture, Jared Wyllys of AllCHGO.com reports.
Impact
Horton underwent an MRI earlier this week, which revealed "areas of concern" in his rib area. The Cubs initially planned on having Horton pitch through the issue and make a start during the NL Wild Card Series. However, Horton will require a stint on the injured list due to what's now known to be a fractured rib. The 24-year-old rookie will be eligible for reinstatement Oct. 13, a date that aligns with the start of the NLCS. With Horton unavailable, Chicago will have to lean more on Shota Imanaga, Matthew Boyd and Jameson Taillon.

Cade Horton - Throwing bullpen Sunday
Horton (ribs) will throw a bullpen session Sunday, Jesse Rogers of ESPN.com reports.
Impact
Horton left his last appearance with back tightness, and an MRI revealed areas of concern in his rib area. Still, the Cubs plan on starting Horton in the NL Wild Card series against San Diego next week, likely in Game 1. Horton's scheduled bullpen session indicates the 24-year-old remains on schedule.

Nico Hoerner - Goes deep in rout
Hoerner went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in Friday's 12-1 win over the Cardinals.
Impact
Hoerner popped his seventh home run of the season in the first inning, making him one of four Chicago players to go deep. The speedy infielder isn't known for his power, as his career high in homers is only 10, and he appears likely to finish with a single-digit total for the third straight year. Hoerner is a great source of steals, however, as he has 29 of them this season in 35 attempts, and he's swiped 103 bags since the start of 2023.

The powerful first baseman has homered six times in his last 13 games, upping his season total to 32 long balls. Busch has tacked on an .844 OPS and 86 RBI in what's been an impressive offensive campaign for the 27-year-old.
