INJURIES

Working through shoulder discomfort Young (shoulder) was placed on Triple-A Norfolk's 7-day injured list Tuesday, Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports.
Impact Young is working through right shoulder discomfort, which he experienced following Friday's start against Charlotte. The injury isn't severe enough to warrant an MRI, but he will rest for an extended period of time before embarking on a rehab program. Young is 2-1 across four starts in Triple-A this season with a 2.82 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 22:4 K:BB across 22.1 innings.

Optioned following Saturday's game The Orioles optioned Young to Triple-A Norfolk following the Orioles' 4-3 loss to the Tigers in Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader.
Impact Young took the loss in Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader, allowing three runs on four hits and five walks while striking out six in 4.2 innings. Young started in two games for the Orioles, and his move to Triple-A indicates that Kyle Gibson (back) could return to Baltimore's rotation next week. Grant Wolfram was recalled from Norfolk in a corresponding move.

Friday's start rained out Young and the Orioles will not face the Tigers on Friday, as the game was postponed due to rain, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
Impact The two teams will play two games Saturday at 1:10 pm and 6:10 pm ET to make up for Friday's contest, and Young will likely start in one of them. Young made his major-league debut against the Reds on April 19 and did not factor into the decision, allowing three runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out three over four innings.

Confirmed as Friday's starter Orioles manager Brandon Hyde confirmed Wednesday that Young will start Friday in Detroit, Andy Kostka of TheBaltimoreBanner.com reports.
Impact The Orioles had left open the possibility that Kyle Gibson could take the ball Friday, but the club has ultimately sided with Young. The rookie right-hander made his major-league debut last weekend against the Reds, permitting three runs over four innings. Young is not guaranteed any additional starts with the big club beyond Friday.

Back in big leagues The Orioles recalled Young from Triple-A Norfolk on Tuesday.
Impact The Orioles have an opening in their rotation this weekend in Detroit that could be filled by Young, if the club wants to give Kyle Gibson more time in the minors. The right-handed Young yielded three runs over four innings against the Reds this past weekend in his major-league debut.

Sent back down to minors The Orioles optioned Young to Triple-A Norfolk on Sunday.
Impact Young got his first MLB call-up and made his big-league debut Saturday against the Reds. He got the start and yielded three runs over four innings, but he'll now rejoin Norfolk's rotation. The Orioles recalled righty Cody Poteet from Triple-A to take Young's roster spot, though it could be veteran Kyle Gibson, who is ramping up in the minors with a start Sunday, who gets the next open spot in Baltimore's rotation Friday against Detroit, per Jake Rill of MLB.com.

Allows three runs in debut Young did not factor into the decision in Saturday's 9-5 win over the Reds, allowing three runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out three over four innings.
Impact Young allowed three runs across his first two major-league innings but settled in with two scoreless frames before being lifted after issuing a walk to open the fifth. The 26-year-old featured a fairly balanced four-pitch mix but managed just four swinging strikes on 81 pitches. Should he remain in the rotation, he'd be in line for a road matchup with the Tigers next weekend.

Promoted ahead of debut The Orioles recalled Young from High-A Aberdeen to start Saturday's game against the Reds.
Impact Young has made three starts this season for Triple-A Norfolk, turning in a 2.76 ERA and 0.93 WHIP alongside a 17:2 K:BB across 16.1 innings. His start Saturday will mark his major-league debut, and a strong outing could buy him another turn through the rotation before Kyle Gibson's projected return to the majors at the start of May. Scott Blewett was designated for assignment in a corresponding move.

Confirmed for MLB debut Saturday Young has joined the Orioles' taxi squad and is scheduled to make his major-league debut Saturday against the Reds, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.
Impact Young, 26, has made three starts with Triple-A Norfolk this season, posting a 2.76 ERA and 17:2 K:BB over 16.1 innings. The right-hander collected 132 strikeouts across 111 frames between Double-A Bowie and Norfolk in 2024. Kyle Gibson is due to join the Orioles' rotation around May 1, which could point to an additional start for Young next week if he pitches well Saturday.
APRIL 18, 2025 • ROTOWIRE
Candidate to start next week Young is a candidate to be called up to start next week when the Orioles need a fifth starter, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.
Impact Young had been scheduled to start Friday at Triple-A Norfolk but has been pushed back to Sunday, which could indicate the Orioles are lining him up to take the ball next weekend against the Reds. The 26-year-old has permitted just two unearned runs with an 11:2 K:BB over 11.1 innings in his first two outings with Norfolk this season. If Young is indeed promoted next week, he would be making his major-league debut.
APRIL 11, 2025 • ROTOWIRE
Cut from big-league camp Young was optioned to minor-league camp Saturday, Rich Dubroff of BaltimoreBaseball.com reports.
Impact The 26-year-old right-hander made three appearances in the Grapefruit League in his first big-league camp, allowing four runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out five over 6.1 innings. While a tad on the older side, Young is a legitimate major-league prospect and he figures to debut at some point this season after being added to the Orioles' 40-man roster in November.

Shows increased velocity Young averaged 95 mph with his four-seamer (touched 97 mph) in his first Grapefruit League outing Sunday, Roch Kubatko of MASN reports.
Impact Young isn't a serious threat to make the big club out of camp, barring injuries ahead of him, but he made a strong statement in his first appearance of the spring after averaging 92-93 mph with his fastball in 2024. The results were good too, as he tossed two scoreless innings against the Phillies in Clearwater. His two strikeouts were both called strikes on 95-mph fastballs. Young came into the year relevant because of his proximity to the big leagues, but if his fastball has jumped a grade, that would obviously improve his long-term upside. The 26-year-old righty also worked on his slider and changeup this offseason after logging a 3.44 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 96 strikeouts in 89 innings at Triple-A last year.
