Stumbles vs. Houston
Young (2-1) took the loss in the second game of Thursday's doubleheader against the Astros, allowing 10 runs (seven earned) on 10 hits and two walks over four innings. He struck ou...
Impact
Young was solid in his first two major-league starts, allowing just three runs over 10.2 innings. It was a drastically different story Thursday, however, as the Astros tagged the right-hander for five runs in the first inning and another four in the fourth. Despite the rough showing, Young figures to get at least one more look in Baltimore's rotation with Trevor Rogers (illness) and Dean Kramer (quadriceps) sidelined. He's tentatively lined up to face the Marlins on the road in his next outing.

Sticking around in rotation
Young is slated to start Thursday's game against the Astros at Camden Yards.
Impact
Young will end up sticking around with the Orioles for a second turn through the rotation after he was called up from Triple-A Norfolk last week in the wake of Dean Kremer (quadriceps) landing on the injured list. While stepping into Kremer's spot in the rotation Friday, Young earned a win while striking out five Red Sox batters and allowing three earned runs on seven hits and one walk. With Kremer due to miss multiple weeks, Young should have a decent amount of leash in the rotation so long as he continues to perform adequately.

Carried to win by offense
Young (2-0) picked up the win Friday in a 10-3 rout of the Red Sox, giving up three runs on seven hits and a walk over 5.2 innings. He struck out five.
Impact
Called up Thursday to fill in for Dean Kremer (quadricep) in the rotation, Young tossed 65 of 93 pitches for strikes in a solid effort that was backed by a 20-hit, six-homer barrage from Baltimore's bats. The right-hander has gotten the job done in two spot starts this season, but he should get a longer runway this time with Kremer not expected back until at least mid-May. Young will take a 2.53 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 7:3 K:BB through 10.2 innings into his next outing, which is scheduled to come at home next week against the Astros.

Recalled to make start Friday
The Orioles recalled Young from Triple-A Norfolk on Thursday and he will start in Friday's game versus the Red Sox, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.
Impact
Young's promotion comes in a corresponding move to Dean Kremer (quad) being placed on the 15-day injured list, restrictive to April 20. Young has made two starts for Triple-A Norfolk since being optioned down following a spot start. In them, he surrendered earned run on one hit with a 15:3 K:BB across 11.2 innings.

Optioned after spot start
The Orioles optioned Young to Triple-A Norfolk on Tuesday.
Impact
Young tossed five shutout innings in a spot start Monday against the White Sox, but the Orioles will nonetheless replace him on the roster with reliever Nick Raquet. Baltimore could recall Dean Kremer from Norfolk when it needs a starter for this weekend against the Giants.

Delivers five shutout frames
Young (1-0) earned the win Monday, allowing two hits and two walks over five scoreless innings against the White Sox. He struck out two.
Impact
Young was called up from Triple-A Norfolk to make his first MLB start of the season and delivered strong results, holding the White Sox scoreless and picking up the win. The right-hander saw extended opportunities as a rookie last season but struggled, posting a 6.24 ERA and 1.54 WHIP across 12 starts and 57.2 innings. With Zach Eflin (elbow) on the shelf and Young turning in a positive outing Monday, the 27-year-old could be in line for another start over the weekend, though Dean Kremer remains a viable alternative to enter the rotation.

Summoned to start Monday's game
The Orioles recalled Young from Triple-A Norfolk on Monday.
Impact
Young will be the starting pitcher for Monday's game against the White Sox, filling in for the injured Zach Eflin (elbow). The right-hander really struggled in 12 starts for the Orioles in 2025, finishing with a 6.24 ERA and 47:22 K:BB over 57.2 innings. Young could earn an additional start this weekend against the Giants if he pitches well, though Dean Kremer is a likelier option to fill that slot.

Optioned to minor-league camp
The Orioles optioned Young to minor-league camp Saturday, Rich Dubroff of BaltimoreBaseball.com reports.
Impact
Young made 12 starts for Baltimore last season, pitching to an unsightly 6.24 ERA and 1.54 WHIP over 57.2 innings. He was always a long shot to break camp given the Orioles' pitching additions over the offseason. The right-hander will presumably stay stretched out as starting depth at Triple-A Norfolk.

Poor first spring appearance
Young was charged with a blown save during Sunday's Grapefruit League game against the Tigers, allowing one run on three hits and one walk in two innings. He struck out two.
Impact
Young served up a solo home run to Austin Slater in the third inning. The 27-year-old right-hander is in contention to begin the season in Baltimore's rotation, but he'll need to bounce back soon in order to keep pace with the club's other candidates. After posting a 6.24 ERA and 1.54 WHIP over 12 regular-season starts in 2025, Young appears initially to be the least likely of Dean Kremer, Tyler Wells and Cade Povich to crack the Opening Day rotation.
