Daulton Varsho - Starts against southpaw Varsho started in right field and went 1-for-4 in Wednesday's 5-3 loss to the Dodgers. Impact It's a common practice of manager Torey Lovullo to construct lineups that minimize Varsho's exposure to southpaws, but the manager had him starting Wednesday against Los Angeles lefty Jose Urias. The catcher/outfielder deserves more chances like this due to his .840 OPS against left-handers over 69 plate appearances this season. If the Diamondbacks believe in Varsho -- and it appears they do -- then they should increase his plate appearances against lefties with an eye toward a regular starting gig next season. With Carson Kelly blocking him behind the plate, the outfield could be Varsho's primary home in 2022.
