Impact Wood ended a woeful stretch of three outings in which he gave up at least four runs while pitching six or fewer innings each time, and he posted his first quality start since July 7, when he tossed seven innings of one-run ball against the Cardinals. The southpaw is looking to rediscover the form he showed at the beginning of the season, when he posted a 1.93 ERA through his first seven starts.

Impact Six of the seven hits allowed by Wood were singles, but the Diamondbacks were still able to put 11 runners on base over the left-hander's four innings of work. Wood has scuffled over his last two starts, surrendering nine runs (eight earned) over 11.1 innings in a pair of no-decisions. Punches out eight Sunday Wood (9-3) earned the win over the Pirates on Sunday after allowing a run on five hits and two walks while striking out eight over 5.1 innings.
Impact Wood started off a little rocky after allowing the Pirates to get on the board first with back-to-back hits in the first inning. He shut them down the rest of the way, using his slider and sinker to strike out eight for the third time over his last five starts. After a rough past two seasons in which he was hindered by injuries, Wood has rediscovered his old form and has pitched to a respectable 3.65 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 102:30 K:BB over 93.2 innings. He's in line for a home start against the Astros his next time out.
