Impact The 30-year-old landed on the injured list in late August after testing positive for the virus, and it appears he's been dealing with significant symptoms. Wood remains without a timeline for his return, but he should be back before the end of the regular season if he's able to start throwing off a mound this weekend.

Tests positive for COVID-19 Wood was placed on the injured list Monday due to a positive COVID-19 test and symptoms of the virus, Dieter Kurtenbach of San Jose Mercury News reports.
Impact How long the lefty must be sidelined depends on whether he's vaccinated, a detail that hasn't yet been disclosed. If unvaccinated, Wood will miss at least 10 days and thus no fewer than two starts. More updates on his symptoms and expected return date should become available in the next few days.

Moves to injured list Wood was placed on the injured list Monday for unspecified reasons.
Impact Wood was scheduled to start Tuesday's contest, but he'll now be sidelined for undisclosed reasons. The team announced the move without an injury designation or specifying which list he was placed on, which often means it's a COVID-19 situation. Assuming that's the case, Wood will be able to rejoin the team once he clears the health and safety protocols. Johnny Cueto (undisclosed), Monday's scheduled starter, was also placed on the IL under the same circumstances.
AUGUST 30, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Effective in no-decision Wood yielded two runs on six hits and a pair of walks over 5.1 innings Thursday against the Mets. He struck out five and did not factor into the decision.
Impact Wood held the Mets off the board through five innings before running into trouble in the sixth. After fanning Francisco Lindor to open the frame, Wood gave up a double to Javier Baez and a two-run homer to Pete Alonso before giving way to the bullpen in a 2-2 tie. Wood has just one win over his last six starts, but he's held his opponents to two runs or fewer in each of his last three times out. He'll take a 10-4 record, 4.11 ERA and 1.22 WHIP into his next scheduled start.

Giants turn 5 DPs, get Alonso with bags full to top Mets 3-2

AUGUST 26, 2021 • Associated Press
Fans nine but takes loss Wood (10-4) was tagged with the loss Friday against Oakland after allowing two runs on five hits and two walks while fanning nine across five innings.
Impact Wood limited the damage to just two runs, and he has given up exactly that amount in each of his last two starts, but he hasn't been pitching as well as he did earlier on the season. He has given up at least four runs and/or has failed to toss six frames in four of his last five appearances, posting a 5.74 ERA during that stretch. His strong performances at the beginning of the year have mitigated that, however, and he still owns a 4.11 ERA -- which is right around the average ERA for pitchers in the National League.
