Impact Mockobee returned to a role as Purdue's top rusher with fellow running back Tyrone Tracey (undisclosed) sidelined Saturday. The redshirt sophomore eclipsed 100 rushing yards for the first time this season, as he logged three carries between 19 to 21 yards against Ohio State. Mockobee has now averaged 4.6 yards per carry across 105 attempts, and he's logged double-digit carries in all but one of the Boilermakers' seven games this season. With Purdue on bye Week 8, Mockobee could be in line to play a backup role once again if Tracey returns for the Saturday, Oct. 28 matchup against Nebraska.

Impact Mockobee was the only Purdue player to log more than five carries in this poor all-around showing for the team. With starting quarterback Aidan O'Connell and top receivers Charlie Jones and Payne Durham all opting out to prepare for the 2023 NFL Draft, the Tigers' talented defense had its way with every facet of the Boilermakers' shorthanded offense. As a result, Mockobee finished his breakout 2022 campaign with 195 carries for 968 yards and nine touchdowns to go along with 32 receptions (on 44 targets) for 274 yards over 13 games. The former walk-on's strong performance with Week 1 starter King Doerue (undisclosed) sidelined for almost the entire season should make Mockobee the front-runner for the No. 1 running back job heading into the 2023 campaign.

Impact Mockobee, and the rest of the Boilermakers' rushing corps, were largely stifled by the Terrapins' defense, with just 40 rushing yards across 23 combined carries. However, the 195-pound redshirt freshman did manage to find paydirt with a one-yard rushing score in the final minutes of the fourth quarter, marking his fourth rushing score across five games played. Mockobee has split carries with top back King Doerue (calf) sidelined since Week 2, though he could stand to see more exclusive usage now that Dylan Downing is also expected to miss significant time due to a foot injury.

Impact Mockobee finished as the Boilermakers' leading rusher ahead of junior Dylan Downing (10 rushes 32 yards; four receptions, 28 yards) with No. 1 back King Doerue (calf) sidelined for the third week in a row. However, the sophomore and former walk-on did cough up a fumble midway through the second quarter, while the majority of his rushing production came from a 68-yard rush to set up his subsequent two-yard scoring plunge late in the fourth quarter. Mockobee has now totaled at least 10 touches in each of the past four games en route to three rushing scores this season, and he should continue to make an impact in Purdue's prolific offense so long as Doerue remains out.
