Out for season Shapen (shoulder) will miss the remainder of the 2024-25 season after suffering a season-ending shoulder injury during Saturday's 45-28 loss against Florida.

Impact Shapen will be sidelined for the rest of the 2024-25 campaign following a season-ending shoulder injury suffered against the Gators. The senior quarterback, who transferred in from Baylor this offseason, threw for 974 passing yards (74-of-108) eight touchdowns and one interception, adding on two touchdowns with his legs this season. It remains uncertain if Shapen will have the eligibility required to return next season. Michael Van Buren, who took over for Shapen in Week 4, is Mississippi State's presumed rest-of-season starter.

Impact With at least one season of immediate eligibility available, Shapen will look to make the most of it by transferring away from Baylor and enrolling at a school whose football program offers a lot more promise. Despite being limited to eight games in 2023, he still completed 184 passes for 2,188 passing yards and a 13:3 TD:INT ratio, which does not even include his four touchdowns as a rusher. At the onset, Shapen is now one of college football's most promising players available from the transfer portal.

Dealing with head injury Coach Dave Aranda indicated Monday that Shapen is dealing with a head injury and is "not looking great" for Saturday's game against West Virginia, Shahji Adam of ABC 25 reports.

Impact Shapen finished last week's game against TCU after logging 67 snaps. The 6-foot quarterback seems on track to miss the season finale against West Virginia. The Bears' signal-caller has completed 60.5 percent of his passes for 2,171 yards, 13 touchdowns and three interceptions this season. Should he be ruled out, Sawyer Robertson or RJ Martinez would get the start under center.

Impact Shapen notched his fourth rushing score of the season as the Bears fell to 2-8 on the season. It's been a disappointing season for Baylor and Shapen has had a hard time getting the offense going on a consistent basis. Since returning from an injury in Week 5, he has 11 touchdowns versus three interceptions. The Bears will finish the season at home against West Virginia.

Baylor has struggled on both sides of the ball this season and will need to continue to chuck the ball around for the rest of the year. Impact Shapen had been on a roll but was slowed down by the Cyclones. Iowa State does have one of the best defenses in the conference, so it could just be a blip on the schedule. The team will go up against Houston next week who has one of the worst defenses in the conference, so Shapen should be strongly considered.

Impact Shapen has been a sneaky good fantasy play in 2023 with at least one rushing touchdown in three of four games when healthy. He was also just seven yards shy in Week 5 at UCF of having at least 300 yards passing in every game this year. With Baylor's defense struggling this season, Shapen is set up for a big performance each and every week. His next chance for a big game will be against Iowa State who has one of the conference's better defenses.
