Mosby, Howard lead Alcorn St. to 81-64 win over Alabama St. (Jan 22, 2018)

LORMAN, Miss. (AP) A.J. Mosby and Maurice Howard combined for 36 points on 14-of-24 shooting to help Alcorn State beat Alabama State 81-64 on Monday night.

Mosby made 7 of 11 from the field and scored 19 points and Howard hit three 3-pointers. Avery Patterson added 11 points and Troymain Crosby scored 10 for Alcorn State (7-14, 3-5 Southwestern Athletic Conference). The Braves have won three of their last four after losing five straight.

Mosby had seven points, two assists and two steals as the Braves took an 18-7 lead about three minutes in. Alabama State (3-16, 3-4), which came in shooting 38.3 percent from the field, shot 10 of 19 (52.6 percent) in the first half but also committed 11 turnovers and trailed 45-38 at the break. Patterson and Tyler Carter hit back-to-back 3-pointers before Mosby made a jumper and two free throws as Alcorn State scored 10 of the first 13 second-half points and the Hornets trailed by double figures the rest of the way.

Reginald Gee scored 19 points and Simeon added a season-high 17 for Alabama State. Gee made 4 of 7 from 3-point range and Simeon hit 5 of 10. In the last three games combined, Gee has made 12 of 19 from deep.
