Joson Sanon - Coming off bench in opener Sanon will come off the bench in Monday's season opener against Quinnipiac, Roger Rubin of Newsday reports.
Impact Sanon will start the first game of the season off the bench as the Johnnies roll out a bigger lineup, with Dillon Mitchell being the one in his place. Sanon will likely be the sixth man still for the Red Storm, and he should be a big rotational player for the team this campaign. The 6-foot-8 forward averaged 9.9 points and 6.8 rebounds per game across 35 appearances for Cincinnati last season.

Zuby Ejiofor - Outstanding in OT exhibition loss Ejiofor generated 24 points (6-12 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 12-13 FT), six assists, six rebounds, one block and three steals in 34 minutes of Saturday's 96-94 exhibition loss to Michigan in ove...
Impact Ejiofor had a stellar 2024-25 season, averaging 14.7 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks per game, and the senior center is looking to elevate his game once again this season. He was the only St. John's player to score more than 14 points Saturday, and he paced the team in assists. Ejiofor's assist output mirrors a trend he established late last season: he averaged 2.8 assists across his final 12 games, after averaging 1.0 assists per contest leading up to that point.
OCTOBER 28 • ROTOWIRE
Bryce Hopkins - Plays 40 minutes in Exhibtion Hopkins generated 13 points (3-11 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 7-9 FT), nine rebounds and one assist over 40 minutes of Saturday's 96-94 exhibition loss to Michigan in overtime.
Impact Hopkins, a member of the 2024-25 Wooden Award preseason watch list, came off the bench in St. John's first exhibition in what appeared to be a motivation tactic by head coach Rick Pitino. Hopkins played 27 minutes in the opening exhibition before taking on a massive workload Saturday. The power forward was one of the Big East's best players before suffering a torn ACL in January 2024 while playing for Providence. He will look to make a similar impact with the Red Storm.

St. John's Tops Big East Preseason Poll, But Coach Rick Pitino Isn't Impressed
Zuby Ejiofor - Named Big East Preseason POTY Ejiofor is the Big East Preseason Player of the Year, according to BigEast.com.
Impact Ejiofor earned the honors following a breakout season with St. John's, whose 2024-25 campaign saw an unparalleled rise to the top of the Big East Conference. In 36 games (35 starts), he logged 14.7 points per game while shooting 57.7 percent from the field and 70.8 percent from the free-throw line. Ejiofor also averaged 8.1 rebounds (4.4 offensive), 1.7 turnovers and 1.4 blocks, overall excellence on both sides of the ball. Though the Red Storm's frontcourt may rely on him less following their addition of Bryce Hopkins, the latter is injury-prone, and it will be difficult for even a tenured head coach like Rick Pitino to divert away from a reliable commodity.
OCTOBER 21 • ROTOWIRE
Bryce Hopkins - Will start in exhibition game Hopkins will start in the Red Storm's exhibition game Saturday against Michigan, according to Adam Zagoria of NJ.com.
Impact For the Red Storm, Hopkins' expected role is starter, so it makes sense he was promoted back to their starting five sooner rather than later. It is just injuries holding him back. While healthy, Hopkins is highly promising thanks to his proven pedigree, which features three Providence seasons in which he logged at least 15.0 points and 7.0 rebounds per game.
OCTOBER 21 • ROTOWIRE
Bryce Hopkins - Coming off bench for exhibition Hopkins won't start Saturday's exhibition game against Towson, Adam Zagoria of NJ.com reports.
Impact Hopkins suffered a torn ACL in January 2024 and played in just three games before taking a medical redshirt in 2024-25. The star forward was part of the 2024-25 preseason watch list for the Wooden Award, but he's not a lock to open the season as a starter under Rick Pitino. Said Pitino at St. John's media day Thursday, "Bryce is trying to be good, and I want him to be great. I want him to have a Mamba Mentality, and he doesn't have it." Dillon Mitchell will draw a start Saturday against Towson and could remain in the first unit if Hopkins' mentality doesn't rise to Pitino's standard.
OCTOBER 16 • ROTOWIRE
Dillon Mitchell - Starting exhibition Mitchell will start during Saturday's exhibition matchup against Towson, per Daly Dose of Hoops.
Impact Mitchell is expected to start in place of Bryce Hopkins for non-injury related reasons. The 6-foot-8 forward joined St. John's following a single year with Cincinnati, where he averaged 9.9 points and 6.8 rebounds per game across 35 appearances for the Bearcats. Head coach Rick Pitino also expressed his confidence in Mitchell, opening up the possibility at a potentially substantial role with the Red Storm this season.

Oziyah Sellers - Looks to be Johnnies' starting PG Sellers has been deemed St. John's starting point guard ahead of the 2025-2026 season, per Adam Zagoria of NJ.com.
Impact According to Zagoria, who watched St. John's practice on Wednesday, Sellers has been named the starting point guard by head coach Rick Pitino. However, he also mentioned that Pitino indicated Sellers will simply bring the ball up the court and he can also play the two-guard role as well. Meanwhile, Dylan Darling appears to be the backup point guard. Sellers averaged 13.7 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.3 assists last season at Stanford.
OCTOBER 8 • ROTOWIRE
Bryce Hopkins - Healthy for 2025-2026 season Hopkins (knee) is healthy for the Red Storm's 2025-26 season, according to Roger Rubin of Newsday.
Impact Back in late-March, Hopkins himself announced that his previously injured knee is 100 percent healthy. Rubin's post backs the news as true. After sitting out most of Providence's 2024-25 season, Hopkins will hope not do the same for St. John's. He brings an excellent bevy of experience, featuring 50 games with at least 15.0 points and 7.5 rebounds per matchup. With him, the issue is health, and Hopkins maintaining that for his problematic knee would be excellent news for the Red Storm, trying to maintain their newfound status as the Big East Conference's top dog.

RJ Luis - Staying in NBA Draft Luis will remain in the 2025 NBA Draft, per Jonathan Givony of ESPN.com.
Impact The former Johnnies star will officially chase his NBA Dreams this summer. This decision spells an end for Luis' college eligibility after a career year in his junior season at St. John's in which he averaged 18.2 points, 7.2 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.4 steals The 6-foot-7 wing was reportedly being heavily pursued by a bevy of big-time programs in the portal including North Carolina, Kansas and Georgetown, but the next time he suits up will be for an NBA franchise.

Joson Sanon - Withdrawing from NBA Draft Sanon is withdrawing from the 2025 NBA Draft, according to Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports.
Impact Sanon will use his collegiate eligibility's sophomore season. According to Jonathan Givony of ESPN.com, several reasons indicate why the underclassman selected St. John's. "New York City, Madison Square Garden, Rick Pitino. If we weren't the first to take it (the Red Storm's scholarship offer), I'd envy the person who did," the freshman's sports agent said. "The way Coach P teaches defense is something I want to invest my time into," his newest student told ESPN. During the 2024-25 Big 12 Conference's regular season, Sanon logged 10.3 points per game. So if Pitino and his coaching staff help their newest student's defense improve, he becomes more than a good guard.
