Raiders starting right guard Powers-Johnson ruled out vs. Chiefs in matchup of AFC West unbeatens
LAS VEGAS (AP) — The Las Vegas Raiders ruled out starting right guard Jackson Powers-Johnson with a groin injury ahead of Sunday's matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs. Caleb Rogers will start in his place for the game between undefeated AFC West rivals.
Rogers and Powers-Johnson had been in a competition at right guard ahead of the season, with both getting first team reps during camp. Raiders coach Klint Kubiak said Friday the competition was helpful in preparing Rogers to step in.
“Yeah, with him, that helped the entire offensive line," Kubiak said, “and we've still got young guys that can play. ... we’re counting on everybody.”
This is a big season for Powers-Johnson, who was drafted in the second round in 2024 out of Oregon. He has been hampered by injuries and inconsistency but appeared focused this training camp, saying he quit social media.
The Raiders' offensive line face a tough challenge against Chris Jones and Kansas City's defensive front. The Chiefs have gotten into the backfield on 52.6% of rushes this season, the third highest rate in the league.
