2025 by the Numbers: Pole Winners, Qualifying

The first installment of this series reviewing vital statistics from the 2025 NTT INDYCAR SERIES looked back at races.

Now, it’s time to review raw speed. Today’s second installment will start with a look at pole winners and NTT P1 Award qualifying.

POLE WINNERS

• Ten different drivers won NTT P1 Awards, tied with 2023 and second to only 1999, when a record 12 different drivers won at least one pole.
• Two rookies won a pole in the same season – Robert Shwartzman of PREMA Racing (photo, top) at Indianapolis and Louis Foster of Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing (photo, above) at Road America – for the first time since 2019, when Colton Herta and Felix Rosenqvist each earned top qualifying spots.

QUALIFYING

• A record-tying 20 drivers, matching the mark set in 2013, made at least one Firestone Fast Six appearance.
• Alex Palou (photo, above) tied Will Power’s record set in 2011 with 10 appearances in the Firestone Fast Six.
• The 109th Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge featured the third-fastest field in “500” history, with an average speed of 231.207 mph. The last three Indy 500s have featured the three fastest fields – 232.184 (2023), 231.943 (2024), 231.207 (2025).
