Orioles decline outfielder Luis Robert Jr.'s $20 million club option for 2027
BALTIMORE (AP) — The Baltimore Orioles declined outfielder Luis Robert Jr.'s $20 million club option for 2027.
The Orioles claimed Robert off waivers from the New York Mets on Aug. 31, assuming an obligation of roughly $4.9 million from the Mets — the remainder of this year's salary plus a $2 million buyout of the 2027 option. The Chicago White Sox had picked up his $20 million option for 2026 before trading him to the Mets last offseason.
Robert played only three games for the Orioles before landing on the injured list because of hamstring issues. He's struggled to regain the form he showed when he was an All-Star in 2023.
This year, Robert hit .221 with 11 home runs and 26 RBIs in 61 games.
Baltimore also announced Saturday that right-hander Albert Suárez and infielder Jose Barrero cleared waivers and elected free agency, right-hander Codi Heuer accepted an outright assignment to Triple-A Norfolk, and right-hander Colin Selby was also assigned to Norfolk.
