Orioles decline option on RHP Zach Eflin, sign OF Rece Hinds to 2027 contract
BALTIMORE (AP) — The Baltimore Orioles have declined right-hander Zach Eflin's $25 million mutual option for 2027.
Mutual options are almost never exercised, and it was no surprise the Orioles decided to pass after Eflin needed Tommy John surgery after only one start this past season.
The Orioles also announced Friday they signed outfielder Rece Hinds to a one-year deal.
Baltimore acquired Eflin in a trade during the 2024 season. He went 6-5 with a 5.93 ERA in 2025, then became a free agent and returned to the Orioles. They signed him to a $10 million, one-year deal. The contract included the mutual option or a $2 million buyout.
Eflin had to leave his first start in the fourth inning and didn't pitch again in 2026.
Hinds played for Baltimore, Cincinnati and Miami this year, hitting .143 in 25 games. His new deal is a split contract calling for $4,700 above the 2027 minimum while in the major leagues and $180,000 while in the minors.
