Guardians and right-hander Shawn Armstrong agree to $5.5 million, 1-year deal, AP source says
CLEVELAND (AP) — Free agent right-hander Shawn Armstrong has agreed to a $5.5 million, one-year contract with the Cleveland Guardians, a person familiar with the negotiations told The Associated Press on Thursday night.
The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because the deal was pending a physical and had not been announced.
The contract also includes a mutual option for 2027.
The 35-year-old Armstrong went 4-3 with nine saves and a 2.31 ERA in 71 appearances for Texas last season.
Armstrong was drafted by Cleveland in the 18th round in 2011. He made his major league debut with the organization in 2015 and was with the club through 2017 before being traded to Seattle. He has also played for Baltimore, Tampa Bay, Miami, St. Louis and the Chicago Cubs, going 15-11 with 17 saves and a 3.82 ERA in 370 appearances over 11 seasons.
Cleveland has sought to remake its bullpen this offseason. The Guardians have signed Connor Bragdon and Colin Holderman, selected Peyton Pallette in the Rule 5 draft and acquired Justin Bruihl in a trade with Toronto.
