Impact Cade Smith was dispatched in each of the the Guardians' three games prior to Saturday, so Holderman was called on to protect Cleveland's 4-1 lead. Holderman needed only 11 pitches (eight strikes) to get the job done for his first save of the season and fourth save of his major-league career. Impact Holderman has been near perfect since the Guardians recalled him late April. In 13 appearances since then, the right-hander has allowed just one run on eight hits and three walks while striking out 19 over 16.1 innings. Holderman told Tim Stebbins of MLB.com that health is the main reason for his success in 2026 after he logged a 7.01 ERA and 1.95 WHIP in 25.2 innings for the Pirates last year. While Tuesday's outing was a low-leverage spot, manager Stephen Vogt has recently incorporated Holderman late into close games. Within the last week, he's picked up two wins and a hold.

Impact Holderman had a brief stint with the big-league club earlier in the campaign, appearing in two games and allowing two earned runs while posting a 3:2 K:BB over three innings. He'll likely take on a low-leverage role now that's he's back in Cleveland's bullpen. Holderman is filling the bullpen spot vacated by Shawn Armstrong, who landed on the IL with a right groin strain Sunday.
