Mason scores 22, Missouri State downs Valparaiso 81-70
VALPARAISO, Ind. (AP) — Alston Mason scored 22 points as Missouri State beat Valparaiso 81-70 on Saturday night.
Mason had six rebounds and nine assists for the Bears (12-9, 4-6 Missouri Valley Conference). Donovan Clay scored 18 points while shooting 7 for 14, including 2 for 3 from beyond the arc, and added six rebounds. Cesare Edwards was 5 of 12 shooting and 5 of 6 from the free throw line to finish with 16 points, while adding 11 rebounds and three blocks.
The Beacons (6-15, 2-8) were led in scoring by Darius DeAveiro, who finished with 20 points, seven assists and two steals. Jahari Williamson added 19 points for Valparaiso. Cooper Schwieger also put up 10 points, seven rebounds and two blocks.
Clay led the Bears in scoring with 11 points in the first half and they led 40-37 at the break. Missouri State turned a three-point second-half lead into a 17-point advantage with a 16-2 run to make it a 63-46 lead with 9:51 left in the game. Edwards scored 14 second-half points.
