Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez: Conor McGregor's pride caused him to lose to Nate Diaz

Saul "Canelo" Alvarez has a May 7 bout against Amir Khan coming up, but he still made time to watch Nate Diaz beat Conor McGregor last month. The boxing champ wasn't effusive with his praise for the sport of MMA when interviewed recently, but he admitted that he watches the UFC and had strong opinions about McGregor and Diaz.

"I watch it. It is a contact sport. But, there is no more beautiful sport than the sport of boxing," he maintained. "Boxing is the most beautiful thing after women. There are boxing fans, and there are fans of the UFC. People want to see blood, but people like both."

The Mexican may like women, blood and fight sports, but he wasn't a fan of McGregor's audacious attempt to fight two weight classes higher than his home featherweight class against Diaz.

"It is because of his pride that he didn't beat Nate Diaz," he said.

Alvarez says McGregor (left) was punching above his weight against Diaz.

Just like Diaz's friend and training partner Andre Ward, "Canelo" wasn't shocked that Diaz was able to outbox and beat McGregor.

"I really envisioned that happening," he said, bluntly.

I guess you could say that Alvarez was also "not surprised" ...
