Predictions for Celtic vs. Rangers New Firm Clash
It is time, less than 24 hours to go until Celtic take on their new Glasgow rivals who seem to be living perpetually in the past.
Whatever your feelings on the previous incarnation of Rangers Football Club, Newco is here and Celtic battle for Galsweigian dominance against this new club on Saturday and it is a moment we have all been waiting for.
No, we aren’t necessarily talking about taking on Rangers, rather finally getting to spout off our collective knowledge. Here are our picks for what will likely be the most talked about and watched Glasgow Derby of all time.
Andy Coppens: Celtic 2-0
No Leigh Griffiths scares me a bit in this matchup, but then I woke up from the nightmare and realized Celtic don’t have some Norwegian as a manager anymore. Brendan Rodgers has begun to bring the fun back to Celtic Park, and that means goals will come in this matchup. Look for Dembele to announce his arrival with the opener and for Patrick Roberts to knock home the insurance goal in the second half.
Kevin Kennedy-Ryan: Celtic 1-0
With Griffiths looking to be out of action I think we’ll struggle to get the goals in… Also giving 18/1 odds on Barton going native
Matt Rhein: Celtic 3-1
I wrote earlier this week that I think the gap between Celtic and Rangers is a bit closer than most think. Rangers have dropped points against clubs predicted to be in the bottom half, but perhaps were a bit unfortunate in both of those instances to do so.
Meanwhile, Celtic have taken maximum points from predicted top half teams in their three matches. While we cannot expect the team as a whole to continue to have such a high conversion rate and the likes of James Forrest to score goals at the rate he is, Celtic do have good underlying offensive stats. Those stats and being at home at Celtic Park, my prediction is a 3-1 win for Celtic.
Mark Nabong: Celtic 3-0.
Despite our defensive woes, I refuse to believe the Newco Rangers offense is anything but a bunch of cats taped together.
