Why the NFL kept bothering RG3 about his knee brace during season opener

By Andy Nesbitt, FOXSports.com It's safe to say Robert Griffin III had a lot on his mind Monday night as he made his first start since tearing his ACL last season. Now we learn that he also had to deal with a bizarre distraction as the NFL kept bothering him about his knee brace during the Redskins' opener against the Eagles. NFL.com has the details:

"Everybody in the league kept calling down to our sideline saying that I didn't cover the brace up," Griffin said after the 33-27 home loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. "I don't understand that one, but that's why we had to continue to do some stuff to cover the brace up with my sock." "I don't know what the league's doing," Griffin added. "I got fined 10 grand for a shirt, so I don't know."

The NFL is pretty strict about uniform violations. But how could a knee brace, something designed to keep the QB safe, be a problem? Well, according to NFL.com, it seems like the league made a mistake.

A league spokesman told NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport that "there was a miscommunication last night. Players have the option of wearing knee braces either inside or outside of the uniform pants."

The NFL has been dubbed the "No Fun League" for, among other things, fining players for silly things. It's nice to see they still allow players to chose how they want to wear a knee brace. Maybe RG3 can fine the NFL for bothering him during a game?
