Vikings waive former Nebraska QB Tommy Armstrong

June 16, 2017

After changing positions twice for the Minnesota Vikings -- including a move to the other side of the ball -- former Nebraska quarterback Tommy Armstrong is moving on.

The Vikings waived the former Cornhuskers star Friday without announcing a corresponding roster move, leaving them with an open spot to fill ahead of training camp in July.

Armstrong attended rookie minicamp as a running back, before re-joining the Viking as a safety for OTAs.

Armstrong spent four years at Nebraska, becoming the first player in school history to pass for more than 2,000 in three consecutive seasons.

He also holds Nebraska records for total offense (10,690 yards), passing yards (8,871), pass completions (625), total touchdowns (91), touchdown passes (67) and starts by a quarterback (44).
