With tight ends Kyle Rudolph, Blake Bell and David Morgan all dealing with injuries, the Vikings have added depth to that position group, promoting Kyle Carter from the practice squad. Bell was placed on injured reserve.

Carter, an undrafted free agent out of Penn State, spent the 2016 offseason and preseason with the Vikings.

After being released during final roster reductions, he was signed to the practice squad and released in October before rejoining Minnesota last December.

Spending the 2017 offseason with the Vikings, he was released during roster reductions and signed to the practice squad in September.

Carter appeared in 46 games for the Nittany Lions, totaling 84 receptions for 963 yards and four touchdowns in four seasons.

Bell appeared in all 13 games and made three starts after joining the Vikings prior to the 2017 season opener. He caught two passes and a 2-point conversion pass against the Panthers last week but suffered a shoulder injury.

Minnesota was without tight end David Morgan last week, and Kyle Rudolph is sidelined with an ankle injury this week.

The Vikings also signed Jack Tocho back to the practice squad.
