Transfer receiver Strong awaiting clearance to join ASU
TEMPE, Ariz. -- Arizona State opened fall camp Tuesday with highly touted junior college receiver Jaelen Strong on the sidelines while awaiting eligibility clearance.
Strong, who comes to ASU from Pierce College in Los Angeles, had not been cleared to practice, ASU coach Todd Graham said.
"We're just trying to get all his paperwork and everything done to clear him," Graham said. "We expect him to be practicing here soon."
Tuesday's first practice was a morning session for returning players, so Strong would not be participating anyway. But barring a change in the status of paperwork during the day, he won't be able to participate in Tuesday's evening session for newcomers. Strong was present at Tuesday morning's practice, watching with the rest of ASU's newcomers.
Strong, 6-foot-4 and 205 pounds, chose ASU over offers from the likes of Nebraska, Miami, Tennessee and Oregon State. He is regarded as a potential candidate to become the Sun Devils' go-to wide receiver, a commodity they lacked last season.
