Last year around this time, the San Diego Padres' offense was ranked in the top five in five major offensive categories. Fans were ecstatic about the new roster and people were tuning in to watch every game in record numbers. This season could not be more different.
The Friars are 3-7 through their first 10 games, with five of those losses ending in shutouts, with the latest being a 16 strikeout, three-hitter against Vince Velasquez of the Philadelphia Phillies. With yesterday's loss, the Padres became the first team in MLB history to be shut out five times in the first 10 games.
Things won't get any easier for the Padres Friday night, as Zack Greinke will take the mound for the Arizona Diamondbacks against James Shields. Greinke has a 6-1 record and a 1.56 ERA in 12 starts against San Diego.
The Padres newest broadcaster, Don Orsillo, who will be taking over full-time for Dick Enberg in 2017, will be making his regular season debut this weekend on FOX Sports San Diego. Orsillo has had a stellar career calling games for the Boston Red Sox for the last 15 years and looks to bring a lot of excitement to Padres broadcasts.
