Royals request unconditional release waivers on Tony Cruz

After designating Tony Cruz for assignment Nov. 18, the Kansas City Royals have requested unconditional release waivers on the 30-year-old catcher.

With Salvador Perez and Drew Butera in front of him, Cruz spent most of last season in Triple-A Omaha. He played in four games for the Royals, striking out three times in four at-bats (no hits).
