Rays' Odorizzi honors 'The Thing' pitch with Dr. Seuss T-shirts

Thing 1 + Thing 2 = Strike 3.

Right-hander Jake Odorizzi's new split/change pitch has been a buzzworthy topic in the Tampa Bay Rays clubhouse since spring training. The weapon, taught to him by Rays right-hander Alex Cobb, has been dubbed "The Thing," and it's one of the reasons why the 24-year-old broke into the Rays rotation as their No. 5 starter with right-hander Jeremy Hellickson out because of arthroscopic elbow surgery.

Odorizzi pulled off a clever move Friday, revealing that he bought T-shirts for him and Cobb in honor of "The Thing." Of course, he chose "Thing 1" and "Thing 2" of Dr. Seuss' "The Cat in the Hat" fame.

Fitting.

May "The Thing" thrive.
