Panthers DE Greg Hardy arrested on assault charge

Carolina Panthers defensive end Greg Hardy was arrested Tuesday morning on misdemeanor charges of assault and communicating a threat, according to a warrant obtained by the Charlotte Observer.
Hardy, 25, turned himself into Charlotte-Mecklenburg police, according to a statement.
According to the police statement, officers responded to a call after 4 a.m. on Tuesday morning where a woman said Hardy assaulted and threatened her. The woman also said she and Hardy had been in a relationship since September.

"We are very disappointed to learn of the allegations involving Greg and are concerned for all parties as we continue to investigate," the Panthers organization said in a statement.
The Panthers made Hardy their franchise player back in February after he set a team record with 15 sacks last season. The franchise tag makes Hardy one of the highest-paid defensive ends in the NFL at $13.1 million next season.
Hardy was named to the 2013 Pro Bowl roster and claims 33 career sacks.
The Panthers have reportedly been in negotiations with the former Ole Miss star to work out a long-term deal.
