Packers waive homegrown receiver Abbrederis

Even fairy tales have endings.

Jared Abbrederis, who came from a small town of Wautoma, Wis., was a walk-on at Wisconsin and became one of the best wide receivers in school history before being drafted by his childhood favorite Green Bay Packers in the fifth round of the 2015 draft, saw his time with the team come to a close.

On Thursday, Abbrederis was waived from injured reserve, where had been placed earlier in the week due to a thigh injury, with an injury settlement.

Abbrederis missed the 2014 season after suffering a knee injury during training camp. He caught nine passes for 111 yards in 2015, then another six for 69 yards in the playoffs.

After a good training camp this year, it was thought Abbrederis might see significant playing time for the Packers, but he rarely got on the field, catching just one pass -- in the season opener -- for eight yards.

Abbrederis left Wisconsin tied for the most receptions in school history, 202, and most catches in a single season, with 78 in 2013.

He is subject to waivers and if he goes unclaimed, Abbrederis will be a free agent.
