Punter Peter Mortell's storybook run with his hometown team is over.
The Green Bay Packers ended their brief punting competition on Monday morning, releasing rookie specialist Peter Mortell in favor of veteran Tim Masthay.
The Packers also released defensive tackle Demetris Anderson, cornerback Randall Jette, receiver Jamel Johnson, linebacker Derrick Mathews and receiver Ed Williams.

"While my football journey will continue elsewhere, I can't begin to describe what these past four months have meant to me," Mortell said via Twitter.
A Wisconsin native, Mortell signed with the Packers as an undrafted free agent out of the University of Minnesota.
His grandfather served as the Packers' clock operator, a job he later passed on to Mortell's father.
