At the start of free agency it looked like Jayrone Elliott was going to have a new home.

But Tuesday, the linebacker returned to the Green Bay Packers, signing a one-year deal worth a reported $1.6 million.

Elliott was scheduled to be a restricted free agent, but prior to the opening of the new NFL year, the Packers declined to tender him an offer, making Elliott an unrestricted free agent.

Elliott took visits to Buffalo and Pittsburgh, but in the end decided to re-up with the Packers.

An undrafted free agent out of Toledo, Elliott has played all three of his NFL seasons in Green Bay. In 38 games, Elliott has 57 tackles and four sacks.

Elliott has never started a game in the NFL, but he could be in line for more playing time in 2017. Julius Peppers has already left via free agency.

Green Bay did re-sign Nick Perry but have made no other additions to the outside linebacker position via free agency.

In 2016, appearing in 11 games, Elliott played 136 snaps on defense and had 19 tackles and a sack
