Packers hope Nelson's hamstring injury only 'day-to-day' issue

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 10:14 p.m. ET

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- When Jordy Nelson wasn't in uniform for the Green Bay Packers' preseason opener Saturday in Tennessee, it was not thought to be for any reason other than just being a healthy scratch. The team's website noted as such before the game, including Nelson along with Aaron Rodgers and Eddie Lacy as players who were given the star treatment of a day off.

As Nelson walked out to Monday's practice with no helmet or pads, it was obvious the recently re-signed wide receiver had a different reason for his Saturday absence. That reason, according to head coach Mike McCarthy, was a hamstring injury.

"I think it's day to day," McCarthy said.

Nelson wasn't walking with any noticeable limp, but one of the team's most media-friendly players didn't stick around in the locker room to discuss it with reporters.

Nelson missed four full games -- and parts of two others -- during the 2012 season due to a hamstring injury. Last season, Nelson was healthy and played in every game.

On the morning of the first training camp practice this year, Nelson signed a four-year, $39 million contract extension with the Packers.
