Newspaper covers from around the country on Ray Rice drama

Published Sep. 9, 2014 10:14 a.m. ET

The disturbing video released Monday by TMZ showing the brutal punch that knocked Ray Rice's then-fiancée Janay unconscious cast a shadow over all other NFL and sports news.

Through his press secretary, President Barack Obama issued a statement that reads in part: "Hitting a woman is not something a real man does, and that's true whether or not an act of violence happens in the public eye, or, far too often, behind closed doors."

Here's how some newspapers throughout the country -- including in Baltimore, Washington D.C., New York City and cities throughout New Jersey, where Rice played college football at Rutgers University -- conveyed what has unfolded.
