MLS Roundup: Quakes romp at Sporting Park; Crew SC, NYCFC share points

Sporting Kansas City 0 -- San Jose Earthquakes 5

Cordell Cato and Chris Wondolowski each scored twice as the Earthquakes romped over 10-man Sporting at Sporting Park. Cato established the tone for the evening when he snatched the opener after just three minutes. Wondolowski doubled the advantage from the spot before Anibal Godoy made it three just before the half-hour. Sporting stemmed the tide until after halftime, but Cato and Wondolowski both pounced early in the second half to dash any dreams of another revival act. Benny Feilhaber completed Sporting’s miserable night by receiving a red card after 71 minutes.

Columbus Crew SC 2 -- New York City FC 2

Both teams waited out a lengthy weather delay to claim a point at MAPFRE Stadium. Kei Kamara combined with Ethan Finlay for the sixth time this season to open the scoring after 24 minutes. Kwadwo Poku engineered the NYCFC response after the break as he clipped home a sublime first and then smashed home an Andrew Jacobson knockdown for the second. Crew SC replied through second-half substitute Cedrick before foul weather postponed the game for more than 70 minutes. The two sides played out the final quarter of an hour with little fanfare to see out the draw.
