Martin Truex Jr.'s girlfriend, Sherry Pollex, inspiring others as chemo continues

As Martin Truex Jr. prepares to battle with three others for the 2015 Sprint Cup title in Sunday's winner-take-all finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway, his longtime girlfriend's fight to overcome ovarian cancer continues.

Sherry Pollex, who was diagnosed with Stage III ovarian cancer in August 2014 after falling ill earlier last summer, is still undergoing precautionary chemotherapy treatments.

Her latest round of chemo came on Monday -- just six days before Truex will attempt to capture his first championship in NASCAR's premier division.

Asked back in June about his girlfriend's health, Truex offered an encouraging report.

"She's doing great," the driver of the No. 78 Furniture Row Racing Chevy said. "She's still on her once-a-month chemo for just a maintenance for a year, so she'll be on that until February, but she's feeling great. She's doing awesome, and really, really, honestly, back to her normal life that she had before the cancer."

Clearly, Pollex's resilience in the face of adversity remains a source of inspiration throughout the NASCAR community.
