Marlins slugger Stanton has successful surgery on wrist

MIAMI -- Miami Marlins slugger Giancarlo Stanton underwent successful surgery on his left wrist hamate fracture Sunday morning.
Hand specialist Dr. Patrick W. Owens performed the procedure at the University of Miami Hospital with medical director Dr. Lee Kaplan present.
Stanton, who felt the discomfort during his last two at-bats of Friday night's game, iced his swollen hand and took an x-ray that confirmed the news. He was placed on the disabled list less than 24 hours later. Stanton, in line to start next month's All-Star Game, led the majors with 27 home runs and 67 RBI, missing just one of Miami's first 75 games.
"From everything that we've got from (head athletic trainer) Sean Cunningham and Dr. Kaplan, the surgery was a success," manager Dan Jennings said. "Now you just go through the healing process and the rehab process to have him back. From what we've been told you're looking at a 4-6 week window of recovery time."
