Listen as 911 dispatcher coaches up 'Dr. Shumpert' as he delivers own daughter

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 12:36 p.m. ET

By now you've probably heard about Cleveland Cavaliers guard Iman Shumpert, who unexpectedly delivered his own daughter in a bathroom at his home early Wednesday when his fiancée Teyana Taylor went into labor.

"It took two ten count pushes with my fiancé playing Dr. and she entered this world into his bare hands!" Taylor wrote on Instagram.

At the time, an emotional Shumpert called 911 for assistance and spoke with an operator who coached up the new father during the ordeal.

Warning: The audio is graphic, akin to what you might hear on the Discovery Channel.

"You did a great job, man," the 911 operator told an emotional Shumpert. "You really did."

If you don't have the 15 minutes to listen to the audio, another good exchange was when the operator inquired about the afterbirth.

"I don't know what that is," Shumpert said.

"You would know it if you saw it," the operator replied.

After the birth, the operator instructed Shumpert to tie the umbilical cord. But since he didn't have any string handy, Shumpert used the cord from a pair of headphones. So it's only a matter of time before "Birth By Dre" is born.
