Ingram closing in on 1000-yard season

Mark Ingram is closing in on a goal that has so far eluded him since entering the NFL as a first-round draft pick: he's just 233 yards away from his first 1000-yard rushing season as a professional.
Despite battling ankle and toe injuries this week, Ingram is "probable" to play against the Carolina Panthers Sunday inside the Superdome.
Ingram, who's in a contract year, practiced all week, albeit in a limited capacity. The Saints are in a battle to redeem their season and make the playoffs as the NFC South Champion, and Ingram is on a quest to prove his worth.
In fact, Ingram now has 767 yards on the season and is averaging 4.5 yards per carry.
Ingram's chances against the Carolina Panthers are promising: the Panthers rush defense is 24th in the league.
However, New Orleans' running back corps is now healthy and accounted for: Khiry Robinson is back from a forearm injury that cost him 6-weeks. Pierre Thomas has two games under his belt since exiting with a rib injury.
"It's good to have a healthy, whole backfield," Ingram said. "We're all ready to go, and it's nothing but a positive."
Granted, that may very well mean less touches for Ingram as he chases the 1000-yard mark, admittedly or not.
"I just do what I do," Ingram said. "When my number is called, I'll be ready to go and do what I can to help us win."
Since Week 8, Ingram leads the NFL in rushing, with 608 yards.
