Gil Martin sets up GoFundMe for longtime friend, former NASCAR crew member

The NASCAR community is without a doubt one big family. When people fall on hard times or face medical issues, the garage often rallies around to raise money, offer support and lend a helping hand.

Former crew chief and Richard Childress Racing's current XFINITY Series director Gil Martin is asking the NASCAR community to help out a friend in need.

Thursday night, Martin took to Twitter and let the racing community his longtime friend and former NASCAR crew member Mark Karan had suffered a massive stroke on Sept. 6.

While Martin explained Karan's chances were slim, he survived the stroke and was now facing a long recovery and rehabilitation process. Karan was initially paralyzed on the left side of his body, but is beginning to regain some feeling.

To help his friend, Martin and his family set up a GoFundMe account to assist with the costs associated with recovering from a massive stroke.
