Final Packers mock roundup: Lots of defensive options

Published Apr. 26, 2018 2:19 p.m. ET

The NFL draft is finally upon us, which means one last look at who the prognosticators around the web think the Green Bay Packers will select.

We've compiled 70 mock drafts, all of which have been recently updated (we hope to add more Thursday, so bookmark this and check back).

THURSDAY UPDATE: 11 more mocks added, putting the total at more than 80, and are listed up top. The tally at the bottom has been updated as well.

When it comes to Green Bay's first-round pick, the majority of mockers think the Packers look to the defensive side of the ball in the first round (see below for the final tally) -- but there's definitely a split between positions (edge rusher and defensive back). Who will be right? We'll find out soon enough.

All the mocks are listed below -- some are more than one round and noted accordingly. If we used the mock last time we've also given the previous pick so you see how fickle these mocks can be over time.

And now, our final mock draft roundup for the Green Bay Packers:

Mike Mayock of NFL.com: Jaire Alexander, CB, Louisville. "Edgy, tough, competes, finds the ball in the air and added value as a punt returner. I think he's a great pick and will fit in Mike Pettine's new scheme."

Todd McShay of ESPN: Jaire Alexander, CB, Louisville.

Evan Silva of Rotoworld: Harold Landry, OLB, Boston College.

Yahoo Sports: Jason Owens -- Derwin James, S, Florida State; Tank Williams -- Denzel Ward, CB, Ohio State; Frank Schwab -- Josh Jackson, CB, Iowa.

Don Banks of Patriots.com: Jaire Alexander, CB, Louisville.

Matt Miller of Bleacher Report (7 rounds): Round 1 -- Marcus Davenport, DE, UTSA; Round 2 - Carlton Davis, CB, Auburn; Round 3 -- Marcus Gallup, WR, Colorado State; Round 4a -- Chukwuma Okorafor, OT, Central Michigan; Round 4b -- Breeland Speaks, DL, Mississippi; Round 5a -- Mike McCray, LB, Michigan; Round 5b -- Kendrick Norton, DL, Miami; Round 5c -- Matt Pryor, G, TCU; Round 6a -- Jordan Whitehead, S, Pittsburgh; Round 6b -- Brian Allen, C, Michigan State; Round 7a -- Levi Wallace, CB, Alabama; Round 7b -- John Franklin-Myers, DL, Stephen F. Austin.

Greg Cote of the Miami Herald: Marcus Davenport, DE, UTSA.

Drew Davison of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram: Harold Landry, OLB, Boston College.

R.J. White of CBS Sports (7 rounds with trades): Round 1 -- Denzel Ward, CB, Ohio State; Round 2 -- Sam Hubbard, DE/LB, Ohio State; Round 3a -- Anthony Miller, WR, Memphis; Round 3b (trade up) -- Foley Fatukasi, DL, UConn; Round 4 -- Jack Cichy, LB, Wisconsin; Round 5a -- Jamil Demby, G, Maine; Round 5b -- J'Mon Moore, WR, Missouri; Round 6 -- D.J. Reed, CB, Kansas State; Round 7 -- Dejon Allen, C, Hawaii.

Charlie Casserly of NFL.com: Minkah Fitzpatrick, S, Alabama.

Joel Klatt of FOX Sports: Calvin Ridley, WR, Alabama.

Tony Pauline of Draft Analyst: Minkah Fitzpatrick, S, Alabama. "The Packers will attempt to move up for Derwin James or Denzel Ward."

Peter King of The MMQB: Josh Jackson, CB, Iowa. "For a team that’s spent so much draft capital on the secondary recently (five defensive backs picked in the top two rounds in the last four drafts), the Packers sure need a cornerback for new coordinator Mike Pettine’s scheme. Tramon Williams, at 35, could start at corner for Green Bay this fall. The big knock on Jackson is his 4.54 speed in the 40, and that’s a legitimate worry. But his eight picks last year in the Big Ten caught scouts’ eyes, and some think he could be Richard Sherman. He’s tall (6'1"), instinctive, a former wideout like Sherman, and, like Sherman, has a frame that can add some strength. Marcus Peters doesn’t have the great speed either, but he’s proven that smarts and instincts win in the NFL too."

Doug Farrar of Bleacher Report: Bradley Chubb, DE, North Carolina State. "I don't rate Bradley Chubb as highly as some do as a pure pass-rusher—he tends to disappear at times despite two 10-sack seasons in a row—but I really like him as an every-down lineman who can face up against the run and bring hits and hurries into the backfield. Because he displays advanced hand-fighting technique in comparison to most college defenders, Chubb looks like a guy Pettine could install right away to great effect, and these are the kinds of defenders the Packers need."

Draftek (7 rounds): Round 1 -- Harold Landry, OLB, Boston College; Round 2 -- Carlton Davis, CB, Auburn; Round 3 -- Michael Gallup, WR, Colorado; Round 4a --Tony Brown, CB, Alabama; Round 4b -- Austin Corbett, G, Nevada; Round 5a --Jayln Holmes, DL, Ohio State; Round 5b -- Ethan Wolf, TE, Tennessee; Round 5c -- Quin Blanding, S, Virginia; Round 6a --Ebenezer Ogundeko, OLB/DE, Tennessee State; Round 6b -- Kurt Benkert, QB, Virginia; Round 7a -- Keishawn Bierria, ILB, Washington; Round 7b -- Daylon Mack, DL, Texas A&M. (Previously: Round 1 -- Josh Jackson, CB, Iowa; Round 2 -- Christian Kirk, WR, Texas A&M; Round 3 -- Jeff Holland, DE/OLB, Auburn; Round 4a -- Dorance Armstong, DE/OLB, Kansas; Round 4b -- Rashaan Gaulden, CB, Tennessee; Round 5a -- Azeem Victor, ILB, Washington; Round 5b -- Gordon Igwebuike, S, Northwestern; Round 5c -- Conor Sheehy, DL, Wisconsin; Round 6a -- Sam Jones, OG, Arizona State; Round 6b -- Tanner Lee, QB, Nebraska; Round 7a -- Daylon Mack, DL, Texas A&M; Round 7b -- Jordan Atkins, TE, Central Florida)

John Harris of the Washington Post: Marcus Davenport, DE/OLB, UTSA. "There are some around the NFL that think Davenport won’t get out of the top 10. He has as high a ceiling as any player in this draft and the Packers love seeing him at this spot. The Packers have tried a number of different options on the edge opposite Clay Matthews, but Davenport may be the most talented of the bunch."

Mike Tanier of Bleacher Report: Mike McGlinchey, OT, Notre Dame. "McGlinchey is the safest pick in a weak tackle class. He's also a natural fit as a replacement at right tackle for Bryan Bulaga, a 29-year-old who is on the mend from ACL surgery. Since the Packers signed Jimmy Graham at tight end, both offensive tackles have to be ready to run-block and pass-protect with absolutely no support. McGlinchey's steadiness and mistake-free style will be assets."

Dan Kadar of SB Nation: Harold Landry, OLB, Boston College. "If Ward or Fitzpatrick were available, they’d be the choice for the Packers. If they’re gone, Green Bay could find an edge rusher at No. 14, whether it’s Landry or Marcus Davenport of UTSA." (Previously: Roquan Smith, LB, Georgia)

Peter Schrager of NFL.com (3 rounds): Round 1 -- Tremaine Edmunds, LB, Virginia Tech. "Still only 19 years old, Edmunds is viewed as an athletic freak off the edge. A developing prospect, he's not as raw a player as you'd expect for someone his age. Pass rush is a Mike Pettine specialty, and Edmunds could have the highest upside of any defensive prospect in this draft. If he slips to 14, that's a steal."; Round 2 -- Isaiah Wynn, G, Georgia; Round 3 -- Chuks Okorafor, OT, Western Michigan.

Vinnie Iyer of The Sporting News: Marcus Davenport, OLB, UTSA. "The Packers could think about cornerback here, but ultimately, the best-pass rusher not named Chubb makes sense to add another key weapon for new defensive coordinator Mike Pettine. Davenport can maximize his freakish skill set in Green Bay's revamped 3-4."

Bryan Fischer of Athlon Sports: Minkah Fitzpatrick, S, Alabama. "Defensive coordinator Mike Pettine will love to have somebody with this kind of instincts and versatility." (Previously: Marcus Davenport, OLB/DE, UTSA.)

Nate Davis of USA Today: Calvin Ridley, WR, Alabama. "Jordy Nelson is gone. Randall Cobb can be a free agent next year. Ridley can replace the former's secondary-stretching speed while also providing some of the latter's moves out of the slot. A much better route runner than most receivers coming out of college, Ridley is uniquely equipped to quickly earn Aaron Rodgers' trust." (Previously: Derwin James, S, Florida State.)

Josh McGonigal and Josh Moyer of the Centre Daily Times (3 rounds): Round 1 -- Josh Jackson, CB, Iowa; Round 2 -- Austin Corbett, OG, Nevada; Round 3 -- Malik Jefferson, LB, Texas.

Walter Cherepinsky of WalterFootball.com (7 rounds): Round 1 -- Minkah Fitzpatrick, S, Alabama; Round 2 -- James Washington, WR, Oklahoma State; Round 3 -- Carlton Davis, CB, Auburn; Round 4a -- De'Shawn Hand, DE/DT, Alabama; Round 4b -- Jordan Akins, TE, Central Florida; Round 5a --QuentonMeeks, CB, Stanford; Round 5b -- Tony Adams. C/G, North Carolina State; Round 5c - Marquis Haynes, DE/OLB, Mississippi; Round 6a -- Kevin Toliver, CB, LSU; Round 6b -- Allen Lazard, WR, Iowa State; Round 7a -- J'Mon Moore, WR, Missouri; Round 7b -- Jordan Thomas, TE, Mississippi State. (Previously, 6 rounds: Round 1 -- Jaire Alexander, CB, Louisville; Round 2 -- D.J. Chark, WR, LSU; Round 3 -- Lorenzo Carter, DE/OLB, Georgia; Round 4a -- Jordan Whitehead, S, Pittsburgh; Round 4b -- Genard Avery, LB, Memphis; Round 5a -- Chukwuma Okorafor, OT, Western Michigan; Round 5b --Colby Gossett, G, Appalachian State; Round 5c --Andrew Brown, DT, Virginia; Round 5d -- Lazad; Round 6a --Brandon Facyson, CB, Virginia Tech; Round 6b -- Darius Phillips, CB, Western Michigan)

Ryan Dunleavy of NJ Advance Media (2 rounds): Round 1 -- Mike Hughes, CB, UCF; Round 2 -- Tyrell Crosby, OT, Oregon.

Scott Dochterman of Land of 10 (7 rounds): Round 1 -- Mike McGlinchey, OT, Notre Dame; Round 2 -- Billy Price, C/G, Ohio State; Round 3 -- Royce Freeman, RB, Oregon; Round 4a -- Duke Dawson, CB, Florida; Round 4b -- Josh Sweat, OLB, Florida State; Round 5a -- Terrell Edmunds, S, Virginia Tech; Round 5b -- Jack Cichy, LB, Wisconsin; Round 5c -- Troy Apke, S, Penn State; Round 6a -- Byron Pringle, WR, Kansas State; Round 6b -- Kyle Bosch, G, West Virginia; Round 7a -- John Atkins, DT, Georgia; Round 7b -- Richie James, WR, Middle Tennessee State.

Joe Marino of NDT Scouting: Tremaine Edmunds, LB, Virginia Tech. "Josh Jackson, Harold Landry and Leighton Vander Esch are all in play for Green Bay but Edmunds is too good to pass on if he slides. Green Bay has historically preferred prototypes and Edmunds fits perfectly."

Josh Norris of Rotoworld: Marcus Davenport, DE, UTSA.

Jeff Risdon of Real GM (3 rounds): Round 1 -- Harold Landry, OLB, Boston College; Round 2 -- Austin Corbett, G, Nevada; Round 3 -- Isaac Yiadom, CB, Boston College.

Michael Middlehurst-Schwartz of USA Today: Minkah Fitzpatrick, S, Alabama. "New defensive coordinator Mike Pettine places a premium on keeping quarterbacks on their toes with a wide range of different looks, and Fitzpatrick is the kind of versatile piece he would covet. Though the do-everything defensive back doesn't fit the traditional role of a lockdown corner on the outside, Green Bay would find plenty of ways to capitalize on his intelligence and closing speed." (Previously: Mike Hughes, CB, Central Florida.)

Danny Kelly of The Ringer: Minkah Fitzpatrick, S, Alabama. "It’s tough to imagine a more ideal pick for the Packers at no. 14. Green Bay’s pass defense—which gave up a 102.0 passer rating and 30 passing touchdowns to opposing quarterbacks last year (both second worst) needs a big infusion of playmaking talent—and Fitzpatrick would be an instant contributor at several spots in the secondary. The versatile athlete could feature interchangeably as a slot cornerback, deep safety, and nickel linebacker, sort of like like a bigger version of Tyrann Mathieu." (Previously: Jaire Alexander, CB, Louisville.)

Gentry Estes of the Louisville Courier-Journal: Mike McGlinchey, OT, Notre Dame. (Previously: Josh Jackson, CB, Iowa.)

Dan Labbe of Cleveland.com. Marcus Davenport, DE, UTSA. (Previously: : Courtland Sutton, WR, SMU).

Chad Reuter of NFL.com's CFB 24/7 (7 rounds): Round 1 -- Vita Vea, DT, Washington; Round 2 -- Will Hernandez, G, UTEP; Round 3 -- DeSean Hamilton, WR, Penn State; Round 4a -- Jack Cichy, LB, Wisconsin; Round 4b -- Chris Campbell, CB, Penn State; Round 5a -- Joe Ostman, LB, Central Michigan; Round 5b -- Quin Blanding, S, Virginia; Round 5c -- Greg Senat, OT, Wagner; Round 6a -- Chandon Sullivan, CB, Georgia State; Round 6b -- Ethan Wolf, TE, Tennessee; Round 7a --Nicholas Falah, C, USC; Round 7b -- Tim Boyle, QB, Eastern Kentucky. (Previously, 5 rounds: Round 1 -- Minkah Fitzpatrick, S, Alabama; Round 2 -- Will Hernandez, OG, UTEP; Round 3 -- Equanimeous St. Brown, WR, Notre Dame; Round 4a -- Fred Warner, LB BYU; Round 4b -- Dante Pettis, WR, Washington; Round 5a -- Kylie Fitts, OLB/DE, Utah; Round 5b -- Chandon Sullivan, CB, Georgia State; Round 5c -- Troy Apke, S, Penn State.)

Kevin Duffy of Masslive.com: Round 1 -- Denzel Ward, CB, Ohio State (note: in a trade up to No. 11).; Round 2 -- Christian Kirk, WR, Texas A&M.

Brad Briggs of the Chicago Tribune: Minkah Fitzpatrick, S, Alabama.

Connor Riley of SEC Country: Marcus Davenport, DE, UTSA. "Secondary could be an option here but a pass rusher like  Marcus Davenport is something Green Bay can’t really pass up." (Previously: Josh Jackson, CB, Iowa)

Wayne Staats of Land of Ten: Marcus Davenport, DE, UTSA. (Previously: Josh Jackson, CB, Iowa.)

Daryl Slater of NJ.com (2 rounds): Round 1 -- Harold Landry, OLB, Boston College; Round 2 -- Carlton Davis, CB, Auburn. (Previously: Round 1 -- Connor Williams, OT, Texas; Round 2 -- Harrison Phillips, DL, Stanford.)

Charles Davis of NFL.com: Marcus Davenport, DE, UTSA.

The Associated Press: Marcus Davenport, DE, UTSA.

Patrick Finley of the Chicago Sun-Times: Josh Jackson, CB, Iowa. "The Packers could use an edge rusher, so Texas-San Antonio’s Marcus Davenport makes sense here — as does Edmunds, if they can get creative. But they’re desperate for pass-coverage help after trying, and failing, to lure Kyle Fuller away from the Bears."

Anthony Licciardi of Breaking Football (7 rounds): Round 1 -- Harold Landry, OLB, Boston College; Round 2 -- Quenton Meeks, CB, Stanford; Round 3 -- Harrison Phillips, DL, Stanford; Round 4a -- Akrum Wadley, RB, Iowa; Round 4b -- Ian Thomas, TE, Indiana; Round 5a -- Tre'Quan Smith, WR, UCF; Round 5b -- Tony Brown, CB, Alabama; Round 5c -- Skai Moore, ILB, South Carolina; Round 6a -- KeKe Coutee, WR, Texas Tech; Round 6b -- Greg Senat, OT, Wagner; Round 7a -- Jacob Pugh, ILB, Florida State; Round 7b -- Rob Thomas, RB, Jacksonville State.

Paul M. Banks of The Sports Bank: Josh Jackson, CB, Iowa. (Previously: Jackson)

Chris Simms of Bleacher Report: Mike Hughes, CB, UCF. "With Jordy Nelson in Oakland, the Green Bay Packers could go wide receiver here. If I'm Green Bay, though, I'm looking for a shutdown corner. The Packers haven't had one in a long time. Plus, new defensive coordinator Mike Pettine is used to having guys like Darrelle Revis and Joe Haden on an island, which gives him more freedom with his defense. The Packers are also in a division—the NFC North—that has a lot of quarterback talent and offensive firepower. The play here is Mike Hughes from Central Florida. He's the best outside man-to-man corner in this draft. It's hard to find many instances where wide receivers got open against him, plus he'll quickly be in the mix as one of the top punt returners in football. Hughes would give Green Bay a shutdown man corner and special teams value."

Adam Stites of SB Nation: Harold Landry, OLB, Boston College. "He may not have the raw, untapped potential of Marcus Davenport, but Landry has the polish of a pass rusher ready to do damage right away. If it weren’t for an injury in his senior season, Landry may have locked himself into the top 10 but that could be a blessing for a team in the middle of the first round like the Packers. Landry can fly off the line of scrimmage with a ridiculous first step and is as good at bending around the edge as any rusher in the class. He’s a tad undersized, but would be a good fit for the Packers and is similar in many ways to the prospect Clay Matthews was in 2009."

Joe Giglio of NJ Advance Media: Calvin Ridley, WR, Alabama.

Jason McIntyre of The Big Lead: Harold Landry, OLB, Boston College. (Previously: Mike Hughes, CB, Central Florida.)

Jeff McLane of phillynews.com: Marcus Davenport, DE, UTSA.

Les Bowen of phillynews.com: Minkah Fitzpatrick, S, Alabama.

Paul Domowitch of phillynews.com: D.J. Moore, WR, Maryland.

Gregg Bell of the Tacoma News Tribune: Josh Jackson, CB, Iowa.

Bob Condotta and Larry Stone of the Seattle Times: Marcus Davenport, DE/OLB, UTSA.

Manish Mehta of the NY Daily News: Mike Hughes, CB, Central Florida. "Edge rusher Marcus Davenport is tempting, but Hughes fits the description of the press-man cover corners needed in Green Bay's new scheme. You win and lose games fastest at quarterback and cornerback. Green Bay already has the quarterback part covered."

Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: Josh Jackson, CB, Iowa.

Matthew Glenesk of the Indianapolis Star: Minkah Fitzpatrick, S, Alabama.

Thor Nystrom of Rotoworld: Josh Jackson, CB, Iowa.

Rhett Lewis of NFL Network: Minkah Fitzpatrick, S, Alabama.

Tab Bamford of Chicago Now (5 rounds): Round 1 -- Mike McGlinchey, OT, Notre Dame; Round 2 -- Leighton Vander Esch, LB, Boise State; Round 3 -- Bo Scarbrough, RB, Alabama; Round 4a -- Chukwuma Okorafor, OT, Virginia Tech; Round 4b -- Auden Tate, WR, Florida State; Round 5a -- Chris Campbell, CB, Penn State; Round 5b -- Brandon Mahon, OL, Penn State; Round 5c -- Ade Aruna, DE, Tulane.

Mike Grimala and Case Keefer of the Las Vegas Sun: Marcus Davenport, DE, UTSA.

Vincent Bonisgnore of the L.A. Daily News/OC Register: Marcus Davenport, DE, UTSA.

Justin Rogers of the Detroit News: Jaire Alexander, CB, Louisville. (Previously: Denzel Ward, CB, Ohio State.)

Steven Ruiz of For the Win: Denzel Ward, CB, Ohio State. "Green Bay will be happy if the draft works out like this. The Packers need a corner and they’ll have a chance to take the top one on their board. We’ll give them Ward, but Josh Jackson (Iowa), Jaire Alexander (Louisville), Isaiah Oliver (Colorado) and Mike Hughes (UCF) are all options here."
