DraftKings MLB Picks For September 12
We have a full slate tonight in DraftKings, on a Monday! We only have four pitchers that are priced over $10,000. Only seven more top $7,500. Should we pay for two aces? We have plenty of chances. Should we punt all of the top pitchers and pay for hitting? Let’s check the past stats for some help.
NOTE: these picks are based solely on statistics. Some players have never faced their opponents, or have very little experience against them. I am not saying that none of those are good picks. The highest scorer of the day could be someone with no experience against his opponent. This is based on statistical analysis only. If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players. Check out this post from Matt McGarvey for great tips about whether to use a hot player in DFS or not.

Paul Clemens has never faced the Giants. He has faced three current Giants. They are 3-10 with a pair of RBI off of him. There is likely more where that came from. He is too much of a risk with so many other options available.
Jose De Leon was solid in his major league debut against the Padres on September 4th. He gave up three runs on five hits while striking out nine in five innings. Expect something similar against the Yankees tonight. His strikeout upside is enough to make De Leon tempting.
Bryan Mitchell was very good against the Blue Jays last week. He gave up four hits and two walks in five scoreless innings. He has a solid matchup with the Dodgers, but he doesn’t have a lot of upside.
The Diamondbacks only managed two runs against Tyler Anderson in their first start against him, but they were on base a lot. His 3.35 ERA and solid strikeout rate make him an enticing option, but Arizona has a solid offense.
Rafael Montero has been decent in his first two starts. The problem has been walks. He has walked ten in only 9.1 innings pitched. If he does that against the Nationals tonight, he is likely headed for an early shower.

Best Bets:
Jeff Samardzija ($10,600): Samardzija has pitched well against the Padres so far in his career. The Padres are hitting .245 in 102 at bats with just two homers, nine runs, and 26 strikeouts. For all of the struggles Samardzija has had this year, his ERA still sits right at 4.00, which is a shade better than his career mark. He may give up a couple of runs, but there is high strikeout potential here.
Mike Foltynewicz ($9,600): Foltynewicz has dominated the Marlins so far. They are only 4-27(.148) off of him with four strikeouts. The only damage the Fish have done was a three run homer by Justin Bour, who is on the DL. The current Marlins lineup has yet to drive in a run off of Foltynewicz, but the lack of strikeouts limits his upside.
Honorable Mention:
Jake Odorizzi ($7,800): The Blue Jays are hitting a meager .177 against Odorizzi in 164 at bats, but they have seven homers and 16 runs. The 34 strikeouts are also lower than his career mark, but the fact that he doesn’t give up many hits could cause some of us to take a chance, even against the Blue Jays.
Gerrit Cole ($7,700): Cole has dominated the Phillies in his career The Phils are hitting only .237 in 59 at bats with just two runs and 16 strikeouts. Cole is coming off of the disabled list, so that could limit his value. The Pirates may have him on a short leash if he shows some rust, so there is a little bit of risk involved. Still, those are pretty good numbers.
Dark Horse:
Jeremy Hellickson ($6,800): Hellickson has dominated the Pirates. They are a miserable 8-50(.160) with just a two run homer by Pedro Florimon as the only damage done. He has also struck out 11 Pirates, which is a rate that is a ways above his career mark. Hellickson wont wow you with strikeouts, but he has proven that he can get anyone in this lineup out.

Carlos Carrasco has had a good season, but the White Sox don’t care. They still hit him hard. Jose Abreu ($4,400) is 7-25(.280) with a double, two homers, and six RBI. Melky Cabrera ($3,200) is 9-24(.375) with three walks, a double, two homers, and eight driven in against Carrasco. Adam Eaton ($3,700) is 8-23(.348) with four walks, three doubles, and two RBI. Justin Morneau ($2,600) is 4-9 with two walks, three doubles, and two RBI against Carrasco. Todd Frazier ($3,300) has three hits in ten at bats with two walks, two doubles, and three driven in.
You are going to want to stack Cubs against Mike Leake. Chris Coghlan ($2,600) is 11-19(.579) with four doubles and two solo homers off Leake. Dexter Fowler ($4,500) has five hits in 20 at bats with a walk, two doubles, a homer, and two RBI. Miguel Montero ($3,400) is 4-13(.308) with a walk, a homer, and two RBI. Anthony Rizzo ($5,400) is 12-35(.343) with three walks, two doubles, two homers, and seven RBI against Leake. Jorge Soler ($4,000) has a two run homer off Leake, but it is his only hit in 12 at bats.
David Price is rolling right now, but his career numbers against Baltimore are rather pedestrian. Chris Davis ($3,600) is 8-28(.286) with three walks, a homer, and four RBI against the fellow lefty Price. J.J. Hardy ($2,400) only has three RBI against Price, but he is 12-43(.279) with three walks and five doubles. Adam Jones ($3,800) is 15-65(.268) with two walks, five doubles, and three RBI. Manny Machado ($4,500) only has seven hits in 28 at bats, but he has two walks, a double, two homers, and four RBI against Price. Steve Pearce ($3,600) is 7-23(.304) with a walk, a homer, and four RBI. Jonathan Schoop ($2,800) has four hits in 14 at bats with two walks, a homer, and two RBI. Matt Wieters ($2,900) is 15-52(.288) with three walks, six doubles, a homer, and four driven in. Mark Trumbo ($3,700) has hit Price well. Trumbo is 9-28(.321) with two doubles, two homers, and seven RBI.
The Rays have blistered Francisco Liriano. They are hitting .433 off of him in 67 at bats! Luke Maile ($2,600) has only faced Liriano once. He hit a solo homer off of him. Evan Longoria ($3,600) is 5-16(.313) with a walk, two doubles, and two RBI. Alexei Ramirez ($2,800) is 14-33(.424) with two walks, two doubles, and five RBI against Liriano. Kevin Keirmaier’s ($4,400) only at bat off of Liriano resulted in a RBI triple.
Adrian Beltre ($4,600) is 10-34(.294) with a walk, two doubles and four RBI against Doug Fister. Elvis Andrus ($4,000) also hasn’t hit Fister hard, but he is 12-41(.293) with a walk, four doubles, and a RBI. Jonathan Lucroy ($5,000) is 3-7 with a walk, a double, and a solo homer. Rougned Odor ($5,000) has five hits in 14 at bats with two doubles, two homers, and five driven in. Carlos Beltran ($4,600) is 4-9 with a double, a homer, and two RBI. At least Fister dodges Shin-Soo Choo, who has homered twice and driven in five against him.
Shelby Miller has struggled against Colorado. Nick Hundley ($4,300) is 4-9 with a double, a homer, and three RBI. Carlos Gonzalez ($4,800) is 5-15 with three walks, a double, and a solo homer. DJ LeMahieu ($4,200) is 7-16(.438) with three walks, a double, a homer, and three RBI. Tony Wolters ($3,300) has three hits in five at bats with a double, a homer, and four RBI. The good news for Miller fans/owners? Nolan Arenado is only 3-17.
If Ervin Santana‘s career numbers against the Tigers hold true, you should consider a few of them in your lineup tonight. Miguel Cabrera ($4,900) is only 7-25(.280), but he has five walks, a homer, and four RBI against Ervin. Ian Kinsler ($4,300) is 22-68(.324) with five walks, six doubles, a triple, two homers, and seven RBI. Victor Martinez ($3,300) is 10-34(.294) with a walk, two homers, and five RBI against Santana.
Look out for Mariners against Ricky Nolasco. Robinson Cano ($4,800) is 4-9 with a double, a homer, and two RBI against Nolasco. Nelson Cruz ($4,400) is 4-12 with a walk, a double, three homers, and four RBI. Chris Iannetta ($2,300) is 5-16(.313) with two doubles and five RBI. Seth Smith ($3,400) is 5-16(.313) with three walks, a homer, and two RBI off Nolasco.
The Mets are happy to see Mat Latos back in the majors again. Jay Bruce ($4,400) is 2-9 with a double, a homer, and three RBI. Travis d’Arnaud ($2,700) has one hit, a solo homer, in three at bats. James Loney ($2,600) is 8-24 with a walk, two doubles, two homers, and four RBI against Latos. Jose Reyes ($4,100) has four hits in 15 at bats with two doubles and a RBI. At least he misses out on Neil Walker, who is 8-28 with four walks, a double, three homers, and six RBI against Latos.

Rajai Davis has abused Miguel Gonzalez. Davis ($4,100) is 6-14(.429) with a triple, three homers, and eight RBI against Gonzalez. Lonnie Chisenhall ($3,300) is 3-5 with a walk, two doubles, and a RBI.
Carlos Correa ($4,100) is 4-14 with two walks and three RBI against Martin Perez. Jake Marisnick ($2,400) is 4-12 with two doubles and two RBI against Perez. Jose Altuve ($4,700) is 10-24(.417) with two walks, six doubles, and three RBI.
Billy Hamilton ($4,400) is 5-10 with two doubles, a triple, and a solo homer against Wily Peralta. He is a good play if he is able to return. Joey Votto ($5,100) is 11-29(.379) with four walks, two doubles, a homer, and three RBI against Peralta.
Jon Jay ($3,000) has clobbered Jeff Samardzija. Jay is 11-27(.407) with a walk, a double, a homer, and three RBI against Shark. Ryan Schimpf ($3,500) is 2-3 with a triple, a homer, and two RBI.
Ryan Braun ($4,00) only has one hit in five at bats against Keyvius Sampson, but it is a solo homer. Scooter Gennett ($2,900) is 5-10 with two RBI off of Sampson. Manny Pina ($2,200) is 1-3 with a homer and three RBI.
Freddie Freeman ($5,200) is 3-6 with a double, a homer, and three RBI against Andrew Cashner. Ender Inciarte ($4,300) is 4-15(.267) with two doubles and two RBI off of Cashner.
Kyle Hendricks has had a great season, but its hard to recommend him against the Cardinals. He does dodge Matt Holliday, who has homered three times off of him, but Matt Carpenter ($3,900) is 6-16(.375) with two walks, a homer, and three RBI off Hendricks. Jedd Gyorko ($3,600) and Brandon Moss ($3,000) both have solo homers against Hendricks, but they are a combined 2-9.
Maikel Franco ($3,400) is 3-4 with a double, but no counting stats against Gerrit Cole. Freddy Galvis ($4,000) is 2-8 with a walk, a double, and a RBI.
Stephen Vogt ($2,900) is 3-5 with a solo homer against Dillon Gee. Yonder Alonso ($2,800) is 4-9 with a walk and a RBI. Khris Davis ($3,500) has two hits in five at bats with two walks, a double, and a RBI against Gee.
Kevin Pillar ($3,000) is 4-15(.267) with two doubles and a solo homer against Jake Odorizzi. Josh Donaldson ($4,700) only has four hits in 17 at bats, but three of them are homers and he has four walks and four RBI. Michael Saunders ($3,900) is 2-8 with three walks, a homer, and two RBI.
Mike Trout ($5,500) has four walks, and is 1-1 with a homer and four RBI against Ariel Miranda. Jefry Marte ($4,200) hit a solo shot off of Miranda in five at bats.
If Drew Butera ($2,800) is in the lineup tonight, use him. Butera is 2-2 with a homer and three RBI against Ross Detwiler. Alcides Escobar ($3,500) is 2-5 with two RBI.
Chris Young ($4,400) is 4-11 with two doubles and two RBI against Wade Miley. How much longer can Miley keep him in the yard? Hanley Ramirez ($5,500) is only 5-24(.208), but he has three walks, a double, a homer, and three RBI.
Eddie Rosario ($3,300) has only faced Daniel Norris once. He hit a solo homer off of him.
