DraftKings MLB Picks: Top Bargain plays for September 5th

Finding value is the ever so elusive, “Holy Grail.” Making cap room for pitchers and big bats can make all the difference in a lineup. With a little elbow grease in the research department, I’m hoping to offer a handful of players that could give critical salary relief for tonight’s DraftKings MLB picks.

Today’s Labor Day slate will feature 15 games. The game in Denver has the highest overall total on the slate, at 12 runs. San Fran is a slight favorite at -110 and has the highest team projection, of 6.2 runs. Colorado is a close second with 6 projected team runs. After those two teams, there is a pretty clear drop off. Pricing will be tight today, with some elite pitching options and the game in Colorado, so here are a few bargain players to consider when filling out your lineups.

Ryan Raburn – COL (OF) – $3300

Ryan Raburn is the best value on the slate, by far. He’s a significantly better hitter vs. lefties, with a .404 wOBA and a .286 ISO split. He’ll benefit greatly from Colorado’s run projection of 6 runs. I’d imagine that Raburn will be one of the chalkiest plays on the slate.

Logan Schafer – MIN (OF) – $2400

Logan Schafer could turn out to be an excellent source of salary relief, if you’re targeting bats from the game in Colorado or paying up for a pitcher. Schafer will draw a good match up against the righty, Ian Kennedy. Schafer holds a .354 wOBA split against righties.

John Jaso – PIT (1B) – $3100

First base is looking tricky today, in my opinion. John Jaso is someone who I’ll be considering if I choose to spend down at first. Jaso fares much better against righties with a .344 wOBA split. If he’s batting near the top of the order, he’ll be in play.

Yonder Alonso – OAK (1B) – $2700

If we travel a little deeper down the first basemen list, Yonder Alonso stands out a true punt option. If Jaso isn’t cheep enough, Alonso may scratch your itch. Oakland is projected to score 4.8 runs and Alonso should benefit from facing a righty.

Any Player from SF or COL that is under $4000 and in the lineup

Pretty simple here. If any cheap players from the Giants or Rockies make the lineup, they’ll be an auto bargain play.

Note: Keep in mind that recommended plays are based off of early information and will be subject  to change as lineups are released. Some cheaper players are more suspect to be scratched from the lineup or bumped down the lineup order.
