Dolphins RB Knowshon Moreno out for season with ACL injury

Miami Dolphins running back Knowshon Moreno is headed to the injured reserve list with a season-ending ACL injury, the team announced Tuesday.

Since signing with the Dolphins on a one-year, $3 million contract following a career season with the Denver Broncos, Moreno's time in Miami has been overshadowed by a series of injuries.

He was limited throughout training camp and the preseason while recovering from knee surgery performed over the summer. After a spectacular Week 1 game against the New England Patriots when he totaled 134 rushing yards on 24 carries with a touchdown, Moreno sustained a dislocated elbow injury on his first carry against the Buffalo Bills and missed four weeks.

The 27-year-old returned in time to face the Green Bay Packers on Sunday, but didn't make much of an impact. He ran six times for just 10 rushing yards.

Miami will count on starting running back Lamar Miller, who has been solid with 330 rushing yards and three touchdowns, once again for the bulk of production. Reserve Daniel Thomas was inactive against the Packers but is expected to back up Miller.

Moreno will be an unrestricted free agent next March. He finishes the season with 31 carries for 148 yards and one touchdown.
