Cowboys' Garrett declines to speculate on contract situation

Jason Garrett declined to speculate on his contract situation Monday afternoon, less than 24 hours after the Cowboys won their sixth-straight game.
Much like several of the players who have helped Dallas to a 6-1 record - DeMarco Murray and Dez Bryant, to name a few - Garrett is currently working on the last year of his contract.
Despite that, Garrett said he's not concerned about his contract, preferring to focus on the here-and-now of preparing for next week's Monday night game against Washington.
"I just know where I need to focus, where our team needs to focus and it needs to focus on playing our best football. The way we do that is we focus on being our best today," Garrett said.
Garrett's soon-to-expire contract has been a topic of conversation since the end of last season. Cowboys owner/general manager Jerry Jones opted not to extend his coach this past offseason, as the team had finished 8-8 and missed the playoffs in every year of Garrett's tenure.
Jones has declined to speculate on any potential contract talks with Garrett - much as he has with his players. Last weekend in Seattle, he said he didn't want to comment on Garrett's situation after the emotional high of downing the defending Super Bowl champion Seahawks.
"Any time when I do it when I'm sad, then somebody gets hurt. When I do it when I'm too happy, spend money, somebody gets hurt. So we don't do it at these times," Jones said.
On Sunday, after the 31-21 win against New York, Jones said he was happy to see Garrett having some consistent success. The Cowboys are on their longest winning streak of Garrett's tenure, improving his career record to 35-28.
"I've always thought that he had the potential to be a serious and consistent winning coach in the NFL," Jone said. "I'm just proud that he's structured his staff the way he has, and I'm glad he's coaching them the way he has. I'm just glad to see him have this kind of success."
As for Garrett, he said he intends to focus on the "process" of taking the same, consistent approach every day - and not worrying about the future.
"That was the last answer I'm going to have about my contract. Seriously, I'm thinking about getting ready for the Redskins," he said.
