Chris Bosh, Dwyane Wade miss out on All-Star starting nods

The Miami Heat have struggled out of the gate this season and limped to an 18-24 record midway through despite the best efforts of Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh. With their team in the middle of the standings, neither player secured enough votes to be named an Eastern Conference starter in the 2015 NBA All-Star Game.

Instead, New York Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony and Toronto Raptors guard Kyle Lowry will start for the East alongside Cleveland Cavaliers forward LeBron James, Washington Wizards guard John Wall and Chicago Bulls center Pau Gasol, it was announced Thursday.

Both Lowry and Wall are first-time starters, with Lowry overtaking Wade by more than 100,000 votes in the final stage of voting to surpass the 10-time All-Star. The Wizards and the Raptors are the second and third seeds, respectively, in the Eastern Conference.

Just last year, Wade led all East guards with 929,542 votes when he was announced to his ninth consecutive starting appearance. Though he has missed 10 of the team's first 42 games this season, he leads the team with 21.8 points and 5.5 assists.

Bosh, who is averaging 21.3 points and a team-leading 7.7 rebounds per game, is a nine-time All-Star who has started twice for the East.

Both players, who have played as East All-Star teammates for four consecutive years, still have a chance to be voted in as a reserve by NBA head coaches, which will be announced next Thursday.

James (1,470,483 votes) was overtaken in the final results by Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry (1,513,324) as the top overall vote-getter. Starting in the backcourt alongside him for the Western Conference will be Los Angeles Lakers guard Kobe Bryant -- though his participation is in doubt after suffering a torn rotator cuff in Wednesday night's loss to the New Orleans Pelicans. The West frontcourt will feature Anthony Davis of the New Orleans Hornets, Marc Gasol of the Memphis Grizzlies and Blake Griffin of the Los Angeles Clippers.
