CCL Roundup: Gordon shines as Galaxy brush aside Comunicaciones

Alan Gordon and Robbie Keane both scored twice to confirm the Galaxy’s dominion over the top of Group D at StubHub Center. Most of the hard work unfolded inside the first 10 minutes as the Guatemalan side buckled under early pressure. Mika Väyrynen thumped home Giovani dos Santo’s cross to stake the home side to the perfect start after five minutes. Gordon benefited from an awful goalkeeping mistake to procure the second shortly thereafter. Keane announced his arrival by prompting Gordon’s second goal before the hour before rounding off the emphatic victory with a late double.

Tigres UANL 2 -- Isidro Metapan 1

Tigres escaped with all three points after a pair of Alonso Zamora goals in the final 10 minutes. Metapan shocked the Estadio Universitario crowd by taking the lead inside five minutes. David Rugamas dashed behind the Tigres line and slipped his effort around Enrique Palos to give the Salvadoran side the lead. Tigres huffed and puffed until Zamora turned home from close range six minutes from time. Zamora secured the victory two minutes later after some shoddy set piece defending from the visitors.

Verdes FC 0 -- Querétaro 0

The first CCL match in Belize ended in a surprising draw as Gallos Blancos failed to overcome the dogged home side. Verdes received clearance to host at FFB Stadium in Belmopan last month and relished the occasion against the Liga MX side. Benito Moreira made six saves to frustrate the visitors and seal a famous draw.
