Brewers' Braun leaves game with tightness in right side

Milwaukee Brewers right fielder Ryan Braun left after the fourth inning of Thursday's 5-4 loss at the Atlanta Braves with tightness in his right side.

After the game, manager Ron Roenicke confirmed it was the same oblique problem that had sidelined Braun earlier in the season and said he removed the star outfielder to prevent further injury.

"Oblique again," Roenicke said. "I was concerned that he was going to get hurt."

Braun missed just over two weeks with a strained right oblique before returning from the disabled list on May 13.

Elian Herrera pinch hit for Braun in the fifth inning Thursday and stayed in the game in right field. Braun went 0 for 2 with a pair of weak groundouts before exiting and didn't look quite right at the plate.

With Carlos Gomez out of Thursday's lineup with back spasms and Aramis Ramirez still on the disabled list with a strained hamstring, the Brewers can't afford to lose Braun for an extended period of time. Milwaukee's offense has struggled of late and that can be attributed somewhat to Gomez, Braun and Ramirez all suffering injuries recently.

Hitting .289 with seven home runs and 19 RBI on the season, Braun is just 7 for 33 (.212) with one home run since returning from the disabled list.
