Bills vs. Jets Thursday Night Football Betting Preview

The Buffalo Bills have covered the posted spread in four of their last five games against the division-rival New York Jets. Buffalo and New York will renew hostilities at MetLife Stadium this week on Thursday Night Football.

Buffalo went 2-0 both straight up and against the spread against the Jets last season, when current Bills head coach Rex Ryan was still New York's head coach. This season, however, the Jets head into Week 10 with the slight edge in the AFC standings on the Bills; New York is 5-3 SU and 4-3-1 ATS, while Buffalo is 4-4 both SU and ATS.

And the Bills climbed back up to that .500 mark last week with a 33-17 win over the Miami Dolphins as a 3.5-point favorite at home. That put an end to a two-game SU and ATS losing streak for Buffalo that threatened to knock them out of the AFC playoff picture; the Bills fell to the Cincinnati Bengals and the Jacksonville Jaguars in that stretch.

The Jets took care of business against the Jags last week, winning 28-23 but failing to cover the 7.5-point spread at home. New York had also been riding a two-game losing streak into last week's contest, and they've failed to cover the spread in each of their last three games.

For Thursday night the Jets are listed as 3-point home favorites against the Bills, with the total pegged at 42 points. The OVER has paid off in 10 of 16 combined games played by the Bills and the Jets so far this season.

Looking at the betting trends for this week, the home team is 5-1 ATS in the last six games between Buffalo and New York according to the OddsShark NFL Database, and the Bills are 0-3 SU and ATS in their last three games after posting a victory. The Jets have paid off just twice in their last eight games as home favorites, but they're 5-2 ATS in their last seven games on Thursday night.

On the injury front, Bills running back LeSean McCoy (shoulder) is listed as probable for this week, as is wide receiver Sammy Watkins (ankle). Jets quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick has a thumb injury on his non-throwing hand that won't keep him out this week but could require surgery over the weekend.
