What are they wearing? NHL unveils 2016 All-Star jerseys

The NHL on Wednesday unveiled the jerseys that will be worn during the 2016 All-Star Game on Jan. 31 in Nashville, Tenn.

While the All-Star jerseys are predominantly black or white with the league's logo on the chest, the color scheme and design throughout the sweater were chosen with a purpose in mind. The league's intent was to honor Music City's thriving nightlife in addition to the host Nashville Predators, according to a statement from Brian Jennings, the NHL chief marketing officer and executive vice president.

"The 2016 Honda NHL All-Star jersey pays tribute to the city of Nashville's cultural scene, which includes the Nashville Predators. With creative support from Reebok's design team, the jerseys reflect the deep bond the Predators have with the music community, the city's growing passion for hockey and the All-Star Game's showcase of the best players in the League."

A tribute to the Predators will be found in all jerseys, as the team's gold color will be incorporated into the NHL logo while the tri-star mark along the neck honors Tennessee's flag.

Each All-Star player will be issued both a black-and-white jersey as the league shifted the format this season. The overall contest will have players representing the four divisions competing in three 20-minute games in a tournament, with a semifinal round ultimately giving way to the championship.

Florida Panthers veteran forward Jaromir Jagr will serve as captain of the Atlantic Division squad while Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin will represent the Metropolitan Division representatives. Chicago Blackhawks superstar Patrick Kane has been selected as the captain of the Central Division while Arizona Coyotes enforcer John Scott received the unlikely nod for the Pacific Division group.
