The New Jersey Devils signed free-agent forward Krys Barch to a two-year contract on Tuesday.

Barch has played in the NHL for six seasons, and spent time with Dallas and Florida last year. He had two goals, five points and 91 penalty minutes in 51 games.

A native of Hamilton, Ont., Barch was selected by Washington in the fourth round of the 1998 draft. He has 12 career goals to go along with 669 penalty minutes.

The Devils, who dropped the Stanley Cup Finals to Los Angeles last month, have lost three key components to that playoff run in the past two weeks: Captain Zach Parise, who signed with Minnesota, and assistants Adam Oates (Washington, head coach) and Larry Robinson (San Jose, associate coach).
